@marty mcfly:
Regarding QVGA recording, I totally agree with you... I'm into car building and engine tuning... It's nice to have a vid of something rather than only pictures... Having one cellphone for calling and txt, one dedicated camera for pics and one dedicated videocam for videos is not an option... I need everything into one device... Until recently, every videocamera had normal SD recording (aka VGA)... Thats enough for now... QVGA is too old and too crappy for any nice and detailed videos... The hardware spec on todays cellphones is fast enough to give decent VGA recordings... I don't understand what's the problem of implenting VGA rec to the cybershot flagship... QVGA is the only reason why I (and others) will look for other phones than c905...

@all
Regarding an AIO phone: Why don't give the customers the possibility to buy the Formula 1 of cellphones? A phone that doesn't comprimize anything, but have it all? Okay, there will be a high prizetag on it, but I know it will sell... (There's still a lot of F1 drivers around;-) )
People like to spend money on expensive things for several reasons.. There's the satisfaction of having something that others can only dream of, the status it gives them, and of course having a product that satisfy all their needs... There's a reason why some people buy 7-series BMW's, $30.000 hifi's, the latest fastest and most expensive Intel processors, 52" TV's and large houses...
I don't like spending money on a product, knowing there's a better product around...

You can record a lot on 8GB... And I'll think the battery will be allright for a couple of 10min videos a day....

I wasn't talking about the N95 8GB specifically, you know (or any other 8GB phone, for that matter).

Not me either... You know, there's this small cartridges you can insert to most phones called external memory, like 2, 4, 8 and even 16GB... hehe

Just kidding, but you did get my point... Lack of storage is no problem today...

current vga recording is pretty crap, due to the encoding. Some reasonably static footage of an engine bay would be best served with a still photo - any action shots will be blurred out and lacking in detail. As far as phones go, QVGA is just as useful tbh.

You CANNOT compare VGA produced by a handycam (or even a digicam) with what they call VGA on any phone currently in the market (atleast the ones I've seen, including the N95)

Why am i having this sining feeling that when the C905 comes out, everyone here, whos crapping about it will go and buy it irrespective of the video recording?? Maybe i am naive, but i have this feeling.Anyways.Lets just wait.

I never said it is the major factor for people choosing another phone. I only said it was for me. I just happen to think a decent camera phone should have decent video capture.
It will only drain battery if you use it as a camcorder all day and no one does that. Just for quick clips when you need them. And storage is sorted with memory cards. 8GB will have plenty of space.
And of course the N95 VGA recording is poor compared to a digital camera. My Panasonic TZ-5 has superb quality, but it's a Digital Camera! It's bound to. At least VGA is the best you could get from a mobile at the minute, so why not have it?
Put it this way; why put in Xperia and not C905? It's so silly.

it's probably an A200 thing. To get it working properly in A200 is probably too costly relative to the small number of buyers who will be influenced by it having vga video.

I understand your desire to have it, but I don't personally believe that good video recording is a pre-requisite for a high end camera phone. It's a still camera not a video camera. In the best of all worlds, sure it should have vga, but if it's gonna increase the cost significantly then it's not worth it in my view. I know I don't wanna pay extra for it.

I see what your saying, but I remember reading somewhere on this thread that SE Japan were responsible for putting VGA in the C905, and Sweden took it out for battery power reasons?
Anyway, I still see it as an important addition. If every other major player can do it, why not ? QVGA is so poor it might as well not even be an option.

Anyway, let's try and move this thread on. Any news on Networks taking the device?

I still dont think the vga screen is going to really drain that much battery sure if you use all the features daily like wifi and gps it will, but most of the power users will charge every night
