@Uncle Bob- Doubt you can be out of touch when there's a South African channel on Sky and half of all foreigners in London are exiles from SA. This message was posted from a K700i

Oh no, Brix...
HALF of all foreigners in London are 'exiles'(LOL!)from SA?
Dig the humour, but I won't take it as the gospel
Yes, there are LOADS of SA citizens in London, and at times it does feel like half of the foreigners are from SA, BUT if you do a more in-depth analysis of the demographics of the Queen's Capital, you might be surprised...ever since some of the former Eastern Bloc countries have become members of the EU, there has been a HUGE influx of people coming here for work or to settle here, eg. from Lithuania, etc.
As for the longer established communities, the Asian population is well in excess of 1 miilion in the UK, of which a large proportion are in the east of London. The south London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark have massive Afro-Caribbean populations too. The list goes on...
As for the SA Sky channel, it used to be on Sky channel 837 (I think) or thereabouts, but now the channels in that range are virtually all Asian channels. I never bothered with it, as I had better use for my time than watching re-runs of SA soapies etc.
However, there is a focus on African news on one of the Sky news channels, of which a large proportion is on SA news. Perhaps this is the channel you were referring to?

PS: Glad to hear you are content with your 'precious'. With the rate of cellphone technology advancements and very regular new releases, perhaps it's fair to say that anyone too infatuated with getting the latest and greatest handset as soon as they are released from all the manufacturers, will have to have money to burn, work in a cellphone shop or network,or not have much common sense. We all know that,as regards specs at least, what's out now is 'passe' in less than a year.

@utheta: It's bucketing down in CT...Lord knows we need this rain. I think the channel was NSATV...mostly re-runs and nostalgic programming for expats. On cellphones it's quite weird seeing all this craziness on Esato where some people seem to be buying a new phone every 6 months. Madness IMHO. I like new phones for my sheer interest in the technological advances made. Showed my phone off to a friend visiting from Los Angeles this week and she was awed by the fact that I had music videos on my phone. This message was posted from a K700i

Hmm, did you play 'LA Woman' by 'The Doors' for her? Oh wait, I don't think Jim Morrison and co never made a music vid for that song..LOL..just joking.
Seriously though, I couldn't agree more as regards the seemingly continuous (throwing money away,IMO)'upgrading' of cellphones by some esato members, every 6 months or even less. Fair enough, each to their own and all that, but for the average Joe Public to fork out the amount of money that some do for a few extra or enhanced features does seem to defy logic at the best of times.
Not that, in the past, I have much room to talk, as I went through a stage where I went phone-crazy, until reality and common sense really hit home, when I realised how much money was squandered and what I could have bought for that money...
I've had my p900 for well over a year now, and still have no need to upgrade, as I have mentioned in previous posts.
But yes, we do love our gadgets, and the more electronic wizardry our phones can perform, the greater the obvious appeal.

@utheta: The Doors is a bit before my time but played her a hiphop video. Anyone around here using the latest Siemens S-series? This message was posted from a K700i

Oi, I did not even know that there were an SA channel on Sky - seeing as I dont have Sky!

Never crossed my mind to get it as I hardly ever watch TV. To be honest, the only programs I actually watch on TV is the various CSI episodes on Channel 5. O, and Top Gear on BBC1.

Other entertainment for me is to go to the cinema and watch a movie when I have the time. My work involves a lot of travelling so I dont have time to watch TV at all.

BTW is the Yebo Gogo adverts still on TV over there? I used to find them very amusing....

@ Uncle Bob,
You've probably seen or heard of the 'Orange Wednesdays' scheme, which most cinemas in the UK support.
Although I am not a big Orange fan and don't use them as my main network, I have an Orange PAYG simcard in my spare phone. As you probably know, it's a simple case of sms'ing 'FILM' to 241, and almost immediately receive an sms with a unique reference number, which you show when buying your cinema tickets, and then get 2 movie tickets for the price of 1, but as the name says, only on Wednesdays.
The sms only costs 10p.
I only use the Orange simcard for this! If you want to get your hands on an Orange PAYG sim, saak the cellphone shops..Orange simcards are currently on special for a whole whopping £1 from Orange's website. Oh, and it's free delivery.
Here's the link, if you are interested:

Lekker fliek!

Thanx Swaer.

Followed your advice and just bought one for a pound with free delivery within 7 days. I'll wack that sim in my kak nokia 6230 instead of throwing the thing away as my original intention was.

Waar is die Biltong?

The Yebo Gogo ads are still on tv but they've animated the two main characters. Currently they've got what looks like an animated meerkat advertising Vodafone Live. This message was posted from a K700i

I thought the stripping meerkat ad was quite funny, the first 1 or 2 times I saw it...
