I'd say it's for better ventilation
.
.
.
But no, seriously either it's secondary microphone for better sound quality for those 4K videos or... I don't know
All in all it looks very nice but due to the lack of interest in white devices I can't wait for black honami

^i have just noticed that the groove on the back is the same as the earpiece on the front so I guess your right about the mic.

I know this is a post about the G2 but it is competition for the Honami and its about its battery which is 2610 mAh and it isnt that great lets hope the Honami with a 3000 mAh battery will perform much better.

Will the 8Mpix option put out oversampled/distilled images ala pureview, or is it just a simple real time resize ?

So if we have 4k video recording for Honami, does this mean we get better lossless zoom while recording on 1080p? I really do hope Sony implements lossless zoom . Very exciting indeed!

If they are using all the available pixels from the sensor while capturing, then yes.. having 20Mpix should give you at least 4x @ 2Mpix video (1080p) .. too lazy to do the math.

In case you have a question as to what "using the all the pixels" means.. read this

http://falklumo.blogspot.com/[....]nokia-808-pureview-part-i.html

"All still photo cameras have the problem that the sensor has many more pixels than there are in HD video. But it is hard to read out all pixels of a still image (10 MP or more) 24, 25, 30 or even 60 times a second. Therefore, still cameras only read a small fraction of its pixels to make the video stream, known as subsampling or line skipping. The effect is a significant degradation of image quality in video mode: there is noise, line flicker, color moiré and the result is no match for HD content produced with so called 4k cameras or cameras with supersampling such as the Canon C300. Such cameras cost $15,000 or more (a notworthy exception is the Panasonic GH2 though which made it the camera of choice for serious video work on a budget)."

"And what shall I say? The iCamera does it too, not supersampling 8MP (C300) or 16MP (GH2) but supersampling all 33,593,616 pixels (16:9) 30 times every second! That's one billion pixels the iCamera processes every second. In a mobile phone. This is crazy!"

So .. if the snap 800 can handle the load, I don't see why they can't implement lossless zooming.

@stedus so will the verge have some personal complaints most likely nilay... and he'd be like oh 4k there isn't any storage space and I don't have a 4k tv so its a useless feature crammed in.

I love AP but they'd say the software of the phone still needs work, I've always wondered what more do they want they always say more about the sony software than the hardware they say the software hasn't changed one bit :/

Though I'd like Sony to take the moto route and make changes to stock like all the app and sony features on top of stock android don't change the holo look.

BTW keeping it relevant to the topic I have a question that I hope you guys answer, we've got all the details and all there is to know about the hardware side. Software wise something big coming? I mean it has to be like done by now right? will sony take advantage of the s800's always listen feature? or you know anything new other than the camera features talked about before in the forum. Btw anything about a few actually useful features in the Samsung or Htc camera software like eraser mode and gif maker and photosphere support of any kind in the camera? that might come to the honami?

So as Huiyi& I said, the Honami sensor is not from existing Sony cybershot cameras. It's a newly developed sensor, and also the first Sony Exmor sensor with 4K video capture.

Great to hear, even if 4K might sound useless to some people, I love innovations and to have the possibility to use a higher resolution.
This should be a very good step forward from my Galaxy S4.

Judging from the picture next to Z, it looks wider but with the same side bezels. I have the feeling that Honami's screen is slightly larger than 5", something like 5,2" or so.

I think the gap at the top of the back is for the mic. At first I thought is was an access point to pry the phone open
