I still dont think the vga screen is going to really drain that much battery sure if you use all the features daily like wifi and gps it will, but most of the power users will charge every night

It's not vga that drains battery but wifi and gps. Serious use of wifi will drain your battery in 1-2 hours (2 hours at the absolute outset). GPS is not much better. This is true even of my 240x240 screen hp hw6915.

So a nightly charge isn't always enough. If I'm using gps I plug into the car charger, otherwise I have very little juice left for wifi when I get to my location

I see what your saying, but I remember reading somewhere on this thread that SE Japan were responsible for putting VGA in the C905, and Sweden took it out for battery power reasons?
Anyway, I still see it as an important addition. If every other major player can do it, why not ? QVGA is so poor it might as well not even be an option.

Actually, it's not only battery power reasons, it's because it will make the production cost very high...

As I hav mentioned earlier, to get VGA recording, SE needs to use faster and different platform, something like OMAP in SO905iCS.

But it means they needs to recompile A200 Kernel that could led to some stability issues. It's a new platform that's not been tested for a bugs from users feedback. Remember K850, utilizing first-version of A200.

Current A200 phones, and Shiho, are using old ARM9 platform which is not powerful enough to do VGA recording. But it's been proven for it's stability and long battery lifes, with a low production cost.

Yes other manufacturer already did this, but they're already using a decent platform. All Nokia N-Series are using ARM-11, a newer and faster architecture... Again, it's a production cost that makes SE decide to use an old platform

I just had another thought as to why sweeden removed vga video recording. maybe its because instead of low bitrate for vga they decided to use a high bitrate and qvga. that way you get better quality and faster fps.

Hey Guys ...

I was wondering which is a good 3rd party Java application for video playback that I could put in the C905. so I could just watch any clip I wanted...

As I would like to put in a good vid player in the fone.

Ciao.

it's probably an A200 thing. To get it working properly in A200 is probably too costly relative to the small number of buyers who will be influenced by it having vga video.

I understand your desire to have it, but I don't personally believe that good video recording is a pre-requisite for a high end camera phone. It's a still camera not a video camera. In the best of all worlds, sure it should have vga, but if it's gonna increase the cost significantly then it's not worth it in my view. I know I don't wanna pay extra for it.

costly? maybe in SE world. you havent heard of the 6220 or viewty? Now they are going for what a mid-range SE price level. There is just no excuse for SE to continue to use an ancient obseleted platform in new phones (esp C905 which is a premium) and you should be thoroughly chided for giving excuses for them for not having vga recording .

I thought people were saying that some C905 prototypes did have VGA recording, but SE scrapped them and went for the QVGA. So if some prototypes had it, and SE only uses ARM9 processors, and you say they can't do VGA recording, then what's going on?!

If they had vga video that would be cool but the fact is most of the mobiles that can do vga do it badly so youre probably better off resizing the qvga

You mean that n95, n82 and viewty should have been better (quality) if they made them qvga video?

well maybe but alot of people around here are saying that alot of phones that do vga video do it badly and I also remember someone saying that the c905 records qvga with a higher bitrate that other qvga phones.

If it wasn't costly for them to develop A200 to support VGA, then why wouldn't they do it? Do you really think they leave things out just to piss people off? They leave something out when they assess that the cost of including it will not be recouped by the extra sales they make by including it.

You should be chided for having conspiracy theories about SE purposely withholding features just to be mean to their entire customer base
