Isn't the phone sold at T-Mobile is SIM Locked? If I end up buying C6906 without contract can I still use that phone on AT&T without issues, just by swapping SIM Card? Also, since the US Store will sell C6902 on their site unlocked, I expect the same story will repeat, and I mean the phone getting launched 2 months later starting from today!
I rather skip all this none sense and just get the C6903 from Handtec, at least it supports T-mobile LTE and 1700 LTE band for AT&T which is available in my city. am honestly fine with HSPA+ speed, LTE would be nice to have but I wouldn't cry over it
Tmobile sells SIM Locked phones, but ONLY if you buy the phone through their financing plan. If you pay the full retail price up front, they will unlock it for you immediately. If through the financing plan, they will unlock it once you've paid off the phone. So, yes.. as long as you pay for the phone, you can have it unlocked by Tmobile, regardless of how long you've had it, and switch to AT&T just swap the sim card.
I didn't hear of Sony US selling C6902.. i believe C6902 is the chinese model? I wouldn't worry about 2 months later.. Kaz stated global release in september.. so it should be available by mid Oct at the latest.
You are correct that C6903 works on 1700 LTE on AT&T, however, the majority of AT&T's LTE network is on 700 frequency. But, if you don't care about LTE like you said, then it won't matter

The choice is up to you. I, personally, am waiting til mid Oct at the latest, and then going with whatever is available at that time.. be it C6903 or C6906

Goddamn it Sony. Why are you still using crappy displays on your flagship smartphone, when every other device (Laptops, Tablets, phablets etc.) use fantastic IPS displays?
I just don't understand it.
Only saving grace is that some displays appear better than others. GSM Arena's handset seems to have a phenominal display with a 1500+:1 contrast ratio. Why don't ALL of them have that same screen...?
The clue is in the first few lines of the review were it says not due for release for two weeks - this is not a retail device or a review written on the 17th as the article would make you believe

about the screen protector, REALLY? then what's the point of protecting the screen if it's not scratch resistance which is not less important. sony must find better solution.
on a positive note, recombu's Sony Xperia Z1 video sample (Full HD):

the video samples looks really good and sharp to my unprofessional eyes, a bit hard to believe it's a phone camera, isn't it?

That's actually done to minimize the chances of the glass shattering. And if it does, it's for your safety. It will hold all the glass pieces together to prevent them from cutting you.
why anticipate shatters? why not just design the phone to be less prone to shattering? ...like creating a rubber lip around the glass so it does not immediately get in contact with the floor once it drops. it's useless using a scratch-resistant glass if it's going to be covered by some scratch-able plastic.

xperia Z and Z1 have a rim around the screen - the ASF (anti shatter film) and not ASPF - is there to stop injury to you or others if the glass breaks from an impact, it is not "proof anything". If you fit your own screen protector you will not notice any change in screen quality or performance

@Moogoo
Thanks for clarifying about buying phones through T-Mobile, but I f want to get it from T-Mobile I will end up paying it upfront without financing. But I have 2 concerns about buying phones through Carriers
1) Branding. If the T-Mobile Branding is on the back of the phone it shouldn't be a problem for me to replace the back panel with a generic one, but if it was on the front panel its not even worth missing with.
2) Branded Software, home of the bloatware! not sure if there is going to be a C6906 non branded firmware, If not, is flashing a generic C6903 will affect the LTE performance? I never used PC Companion to flash my firmwares, always use Flashtool from XDA.
Regarding C6902, the reason I mentioned that US Store might carry it because that is the only Non-LTE version available, they did the same thing with Z selling the C6602 unlocked, which is the same model sold in Middle-east and Asia. So if they are planning to sell a non-LTE model that would be my guess.

rphillipe posted he has one.. but i'm sure he's busy playing with it and not posting yet
@ermac
Those are always 2 of the 3 biggest concerns when getting a phone from a carrier (#3 being sim lock). I would think there will be branding on the back (my guess) and like you, i have no idea if there will be a generic C6906 rom to flash since it's supposed to be a Tmobile exclusive.. who knows. Guess we'll have to weigh our options when that time comes.
