So Sony does it again. While it's worse in photography than it's rivals, it's not really that much worse, only a little bit, one can swallow that offence. But what they did with 4K video, just pathetic...

didn't GSM arena says the video bitrate for z2 video is lower than others? This can explain why. While I do appreciate that they try to make it works smoothly to write 4k videos to SD card, which also explain why my 20mb/s max write SD can works flawlessly, but having this kind of quality destroy the whole purpose of capturing high res video. I do not understand Sony reason of why having high compression/small file size of photos and videos, its like they are deliberately trying to make it worse. Thing's do look sharper on Z2 screen with x reality engine on than what you would get on Z2 screen, but if they thing everything should work in conjunction with it then they are really stupid.

^here's the best part, Z2 has the highest bitrate of them all, Z2 has 53Mbps against S5 46Mbps and 29Mbps of LG G3.

then that's just sad, how can someone make such amazing NEX cameras and professional camcorded and fail so bad here. Unless they didn't let the camera division touching the software side of things at all.

It sounds like a conspiracy theory, but I agree with other people saying that the camera division of Sony "fears" the mobile cameras and wants to hold back the image quality. So even if the "Alpha camera team" has worked with in the production of the smartphone it doesn't mean anything, unless they give their best, which I think won't happen.
It's a bigger marketing aspect saying the technology comes from the Sony camera division (and things that everyone remembers in Alpha cameras like G-Lens, Bionz) than actual image quality.
Actual image quality will only be measured in objective mobile camera reviews. But only a minority (like us) of Sony customers will actually read these reviews! Most customers will get to know the Sony Xperia Z2 only through advertising and their favorite mobile network shop/website/advertising. Both of these possibilities don't include tests of image quality like reviews. They only mention buzzwords mentioned in the press release (20,7MP, Bionz, Exmor RS, G-Lens...).
In the end, my guess is Sony thinks the image quality is
good enough for most of the customers. And marketing value is more import than real value. But that's the point also for other manufacturers.

It's not photo, it is video.

It is blurry everywhere on the Sony, pathetic. Bionz means jack if you ask me for the Z1 or Z2, needs a dedicated chip and that won't happen, and probably imaging division wouldn't allow it I feel.
As was posted by DexterMoser, Fujitsu has gotten a hold of the 20.7MP sensor from sony for their device
http://www.fujitsu.com/global[....]ess-releases/2014/0526-01.html
So it will be interesting to see how well it performs and if it has the same issues as the Z2, if not, then clearly Sony's firmware is what sucks balls and they don't give a flying f**k about quality.
I am content with the Z1's image quality for now, but not sure I would go for another Sony for my next phone, clearly nothing is improving and the "one" Sony Kazai promised is not there yet for the mobile space.
Only thing to look forwards to I feel is the next gen QX lens cameras, hopefully a fixed lens, 1inch version that is more compact than the current QX100.

I think their camera team just design the best possible hardware they can fit into whatever the phone is going to be and that was all they did. Software were all handled by the xperia software team in EU which know jack shit about camera. The samsung k zoom is using the same sensor correct? Which looks very promising and good already. I think this has already proof that their issue has a lot to do with the software.

Hmm didn't know that used the Sony sensor. I agree, Xperia software team is fail when it comes to camera firmware.
Although Sony's forte has never been software, thinking back to the atrac days and the media transfer software which was bundled with the various walkmans. Not counting Vegas studio, Acid or soundforge, since these were not made from scratch by Sony
