Yo!
My iMac has started to run kinda slow the last few weeks and i was wondering what the best way was to make it run like it did when i first got it???
Backup, format, reinstall.
I did it a short while back; works wonders!
Takes about an hour, give or take a bit.
Repairing disk permissions and clearing your desktop up helps too, if you're not up for doing a reinstall.

^ That wouldn't be an issue if you used Time Machine..
Initial backup will take a while for you, but you won't have any backup worries in the future.
Assuming you are on Leopard, Reg.

Indeed I am on Leopard but time machine doesn't work! I don't have enough space to do a backup it claims...
which is true.. My HDD is 250gb and 130gb of that is music and 10gb is free... I've
got an external HDD but that's full to the brim...

Or have the nice geniuses upgrade your one, if you're sane and don't want to pay 1000+ for a slightly bigger hard drive.

Do they ermm inspect my HDD? there's stuff on here that a) Apple wouldn't like and b) I wouldn't want others to see...
If not sweet, I'l be asking about a 1tb drive...

They never look at your content. From what I've seen, you take the computer to the store, they provide you with a HDD to dump the lot onto, yourself, at the genius bar, then you give them the computer and they upgrade it.
I don't what they do with the old one, but they would probably give it to you, or dispose of it if you asked.

Been on the blower to Apple Arien and what you have said is nae right, Apple will refer you to a local 3rd party authorised dealer who can rip your mac to bits and sort it out...
So waiting on a call from them as a 1tb hdd sounds appealing!
