Do you think there's still a chance that Sony will release Honami with Android 4.3, on the day that they release Honami?

Maybe a small chance..

its mostly about sensor size/area.. There is nothing you can do to make a significantly smaller sensor perform better than a big one.

A good example is the nokia 920. Before it came to market they said that it will come with a standard tiny sensor @ 1.4 microns/pixel , and from that point on i didn't really have to look at any of the images, i just knew that they will be the usual noisy/grainy mess those sensors produce.

Another one is the 1020.. Smaller sensor than the 808 which leads to inferior IQ.

Yes, you can make up for some of that with software, but ultimately the sensor / optics combo is the most important part.

So don't expect anything extraordinary from the honami in terms of IQ.. It will be good, but not quite 808 territory.

If you are expecting miracle firmware that would make the sensor over perform by such a big margin.. You are going to have a bad time.

It's amusing how this is playing out. Honami is still quite thin with no bump, so it's physically impossible to have a very large sensor and the appropriate lens to go with it. If Sony had compromised Honamis design to go with a thicker phone or a bump, there would be people complaining about that.

Instead Sony put a sensor that is already larger than those found on the vast majority of high end smartphones, and we have things like the newer JPEG compression algorithm, BIONZ processor, and the f2.0 G lens which should put it ahead of ALMOST every other major phone manufacturer.

There comes a point where consumers have to weigh what's more important to them when buying a phone. We know Sony does numerous consumer polls to figure out what people want, and they build their products to match those priorities. So does a consumer want a thin phone with a mainstream, sleek design that takes great photos that're better than most other high end smartphones? Or do they want a thicker phone with a less mainstream design that can take even better photos? Note that I'm not saying any of the Lumias take better quality photos than Honami. I don't know that with certainty, and neither does anyone here. We will wait for final release results to judge. And yes there's more to a phone than just design and camera, but I'm just singling out those features now since they're being discussed.

I mean, it's not like Sony could NOT have put a far larger sensor into Honami and a xenon flash. It's well withint heir technical abilities to do so. Sony would have based their decision on just how far to go with the camera when building Honami based on their market research. Nokia decided to make much more camera-centric devices, and good on them if they can produce quality products. How much they will sell of those products compared to everyone else... well that's another matter entirely.

In this case it seems Sony decided to put as much as they could into Honami without having to sacrifice design and make it less appealing to the mass market. Simple as that. We'll see just how good that decision was in a couple of weeks.

Can't be a fault with the sensor technology. Otherwise Nikon, Apple, Samsung, LG, etc. would have terrible shots coming from their various smartphones. After all Sony are the people who manufacture all of the best camera sensors.

The worst it could be is a single-unit defect, which is perfectly normal. No fabrication process is 100% flawless.

yea sony produces apple/samsung sensors so.. theres that. they should be able to produce decent images based on that fact alone, that those companies are able to get the 'most' out of the sensors.. with that said, i am not concerned with the quality of samples (they look pretty poor) so i will wait naturally. the thing that does bother me, is the blue tint from the flash. my first reaction was that oil/finger prints are refracting the light over the lens element. still as consistent as it is, i think there may be an issue with the LED being TOO strong, that or the timing needs to be changed. still once it is in peoples hands we will get more information to filter, and process to complete our own personal conclusions..

my hope is that the HW of this device is > the note 3.. not that i would get one regardless. though that 5420 sounds AMAZING!

holding hope for the ZL version..

shouldnt it be c6906 for lte, not 03? thats been the trend all year at least.

bottom right corner... que este

if you are referring to the post above you you need to stop call him a troll since he is just expressing his opinions, Honestly in my opinion these shots looks not so good for the info we have gotten so far. But these pics don't mean a thing unless we can actually confirm they come from a release Honami and that they are untouched which they aren't.

He's definitely allowed to express his sentiments. But the way he did it - unnecessary mocking of us - really makes him an idiot.
On topic:
In theory, the party photos should give the best quality.

I have a feeling that the honami used is the prototype with a casing on the back, and that casing on the back causes the LED flash to reflect toward the camera and produce that blue tint on the side.

To be honest I am quite impressed with the lowlight, I mean if the exif data is right, most of those shots are at ISO 1000 and ISO 800 yet they are still very usable imo. Usually the limit is at iso 400, but these shots are quite decent for such high isos. Just make sure when you zoom in, wait for it to load when you view it on the photo viewer.

No, the 14.1.x firmwares are 4.2. There has been no sign of any later firmwares being approved as yet.

Seems to me some of the guys here are just posting in this thread to troll, those of you who criticizes the samples for being crap must get a DSLR, with all due respect, I'm challenging everyone to hotlink a clean noise free and detailed cameraphone sample here in this thread shot at that ISO800-1000 and prove me wrong.
