I think no one mentioned this :

On FC and FO mode while speaking on the phone, there is no way you can turn into ACTIVITY MENU in the Task manager. It's never Highligted !!

The P990i has been targetted for the businessmen, it is not able to restart itself to phone mode when it reboots as the end user needs to press the "Phone on" for the P990i to be used.

How do you make the businessmen not miss an important call or sms if the P990i decides to reboot itself when it is in his/her pouch or bag ?

There is also no visual confirmation that it is even powered up as you only have a pitch black screen and need to press a button to know that it is.

This can be changed with the settings... It's crazy how much you will learn by reading the manual to the phone...

You can set the phone to start up in phonemode automaticly. (If you know you will fly you can set it back then) This will speed up the start a little bit..

Then you can set the screen to just dim to the wanted level and make it go to black first after 10 minutes or whaterver you want... or not at all.
This is a function I would like to be able to set diffrent for FO and FC.
I don't wan't the phone to turn off the screen when in FO but I do wan't it to close down to save battery and so when in FC.

more stuff:

annoying when you call someone, it briefly shows the previous contact you called, then refreshes the screen and shows the right contact, so the first second you think you are calling the wrong person.

also annoying, if you accidentally cancel an SMS, it asks you to save to draft yes or no, but no way you can cancel it, you have to save to draft to save your message and reopen it if you want to continue

the 3D golf game, if selected, will make your phone unresponsive for at least 30s before doing anything...like it hangs for apps, but you can still browse the menus!

wifi browsing: did a successful wifi connection, but when I surf, it just hangs the progress bar and nothing is appearing in the browser. despite that the connected timer continues...

if you go to phonebook and for example you want to look up a contact starting with W, it will look up a contact starting with 9, click again 9 button and now it shows W but too late, the 9 is already there so no contact will be found. press the return arrow, redo the same, now the 9 will not appear but the W directly if you push the 9 button.

mp3s cannot be played when selecting ringtones, I do not understand why since my p910 does this without any problem.

how to do a multiselect of sms'es to delete them? I have to open each one and then the option to delete them is present!

battery life is 1 day if you are connected to BT in car for 4 hours, called for max 30 mins, played quadrapop for 20 minutes and just used the phone 10 minutes to browse through menus... also disappointing IMHO compared with P910

my memory is jumpin between 3 and 9, if I close for about 300KB of apps according to the taskman, it frees up at least 5 MB!

there are plenty of annoying things like that, I really do not understand SE could release such a piece of buggy crap. I am very disappointed and I think I will switch back to my p910 until the p990 can get updated with some more serious firmware (I cannot upgrade it, it keeps saying I have the latest version while I am on R4 -- my CDA is

CDA162008/55 R1A03
CDA162008/55 R1A03

(it is listed twice, dunno why...?)

rest:

phone: CXC162037 R4B001
bt: CXC 162058 R4F01
organizer: CXC162038 R2A04

Cant say i have that problem either in FO mode or FC mode...press 9 and it always comes up with the letter W.

As Jah said earlier, seems like you have a faulty phone which is unlucky...get it changed for a new one.

@dirkies

some of the problems (eg FC operations and keypad issues) were in the older firmware for the World Generic SIM free P990, so your next frimware should include fixes...

Joel80,

Thanks for the heads up.

Looks like you also have to forgo the Sim security pin input if you want the P990i to restart automatically.

Yes.. but that isn't anything I will do.. But for those who want that there is a setting that makes the phone ask for pin-code when a new sim-card is inserted. A phone-lock... to make the thieves have a little more problem with the gods.

I've been "at it" for the passsed day or so on my p990i and alot of the problems I had last night with the gui i've overcome. The whole menu system is a bit different compared to the p910i but it's not too difficult to get used to.
When I tried to transfer my contacts etc from my p910i the p990i just hung. So instead I transferred data from outlook.

Unfortunately SE haven't released any 64 bit software so I'm using a laptop I got out of the loft last night instead of proper computer. Haven't quite figured out how to get the auto update thing running. But our vodafone business manager has said that he'll sort it out once the phone is out of it's exclusive vodafone period in a couple weeks time.

There's a huge difference between borrowing a mates (in my case cousin's) phone for a few hours (three for me) and actually owning the machine yourself. The worry you get when wanting to tweak around with settings is removed when it's your own. Two days in and I'm really glad I purchased the phone. It's only crashed twice on me and I've been really fooling around on it. I found that uninstalling alot of the stuff I didn't need helped performance alot. Also installing to memory card whenever possible helps.

I pinched my brothers psp hard drive/battery peripheral which connects through ms duo slot, and it worked. Obviously it's a truly cumbersome idea and shouldn't entertain as a solution to anything (except perhaps weight lifting or something). I did notice a bit of performance lag though whilst trying this.

In our household we have a panasonic tv with sd card slot. Basically you can record what you're watching on tv to the sd card in mp4 format. I transferred a previous recording from the sd card via pc to the 512mb ms duo pro card i have, and it worked. The quality and flow of picture was just like how when we play it on pc.

It's a good phone (and I don't mean to moan) but I was expecting more really.

I agree. That is annoying. And also if you have written an SMS that is a bit too long it will ask you if you want to send it as two regular SMS's. If you want to shorten it down it's not possible since you only have Yes and No to chose from. If you select Yes, it will send it. If you select No it will just vanish. :-/

One of the more obvious changes that I've noticed with organizer R3B01 is how fast the golf game starts, and how fast it is when started.

Quote:if you go to phonebook and for example you want to look up a contact starting with W, it will look up a contact starting with 9, click again 9 button and now it shows W but too late, the 9 is already there so no contact will be found. press the return arrow, redo the same, now the 9 will not appear but the W directly if you push the 9 button.

That can still happen in organizer version R3B01 from time to time, if you press a key too soon after getting to the phonebook in FC mode.

Quote:mp3s cannot be played when selecting ringtones, I do not understand why since my p910 does this without any problem.

I can select MP3's with organizer R3B01. Never tried it with earlier firmware, so I don't know if that was a common issue.

Quote:how to do a multiselect of sms'es to delete them? I have to open each one and then the option to delete them is present!

When the flip is open you should normally see checkboxes before the SMS's. Just check those you want to delete and press Del on the keyboard. You should also have an option in the menu to delete, but in some cases that option is not available, but the Del key should still work. If the flip is closed you can select "more" and then find "select" in the menu. Once you have made a selection, the left softkey will show "select" or "unselect" so you will not have to enter the "more"-menu for every selection.

The battery life on my phone almost doubled up after I turned 3G off. Most of the time I'm not in need of it, but it's still a pity that 3G should be such a battery consumer.

I hope you will be able to update the firmware soon, because I think it will solve many of your problems.

I am not sure if this is a bug or not, but I am really annoyed by this one.
There are moments where my phone says "Only emergecny calls only" out of the blue. Other times, I have five bars, full signal, but still whomever calls me is only getting my voice mail. If I switch to flight and tne to phone, the phone registers and works fine. Same if I do a new search. I only the the GSM network available, and so I only selected the GSM on the Module Networks menu.
If I leave the phone a Manual selection of the network, it will say very often that the prvious network is not available anymore and if I want to do a new search. But this is not going to work ever, since I do other things than just to stare at the phone a see when it goes off the network.
I am on Cingular and got a 3G card from them, even though it does not work on the 3G due to different bandwidth. I called CS, and aded the new IMEI. It did not seem to help a bit. Do I need to switch back to a regular GSM SIM? I had a P900 pior to this one and it gave me few if no problems on the Cingular network.

UPDATE: Since I added the IMEI to my account, it seems that I have no more issues. It must have been that avery time I was switiching between towers, I needed to re-register. With the actual IMEI all the validations I guess pass just fine. Maybe it's a Cingular feature
