Wow, this has been a pretty busy thread today.

I think a lot of you are completely missing the point. IT'S THE INTERFACE!! The only really new feature is the visual voicemail which is why it's EXCLUSIVE to Cingular. Cingular had to redesign their whole voicemail system to accommodate this phone.

Lots of phones have these features, some have more, some have less. NONE have such an awesome user interface. Yes, it will take other manufacturers YEARS to catch up to this. The good thing is... they wouldn't have done a damn thing otherwise. So at least maybe we can expect some better phones in the future from the other guys but don't kid yourselves, if they were even CLOSE to having something decent, it would still be a year or two out.
If you think someone will come out with a serious competitor to this phone in 5 months, you're an idiot. The reason that most phones suck so bad is BECAUSE they only spend 5 months developing them.

NOW, the other cellular manufacturers have an example of what an innovative phone is!

SE bring out a revolutionary walkman phone soon. I don like the design and texting would be like finding a needle in a haystack, but it will still sell well. IS THIS THE END OF THE WALKMAN PHONE BY SE LETS HOPE NOT !!!

SE RELEASE REVOLUTIONARY WALKMAN

Iphone UI looks fantastic and easy to use. It is just not enough as apple has totally forgotten the physical aspect. A touchscreen phone is a already a bane to use and more so one without even nav. keys. The physical aspect will totally destroy any hope that iphone can be a mass-market smartphone.

And what's the point of making a phone so thin when the other dimensions are so big. The only way you can carry this phone is in your briefcase/handbag/carry case. Put it in your jeans pocket and very likely you break the screen.

Other than the snazzy presentation of the UI (which may not turn out to be so ideal in real life - i.e. slow and suck battery), I dont see the iphone having any tech that can exceed phone like n95/n93/p990.

Just heard this morning that the phone will only be available in around the world in December. It has not even passes FCC approval in the US and it should be available there in June

A device without keypad is never called a mobile phone.
I agree the design and the user interface is cool but only worth try for proffesionals, even I think it should be used as a second fancy phone.

I hope they can be smart enough as they announced it now they should start sale specially we will have CEBIT soon and forsure there will be a killer from SE so Apple should now concentrate on the next phone by mid of summer otherwise they can not get any of other competitors market share only a small room for Apple and some IPOD lovers.

Just think about a gaming mobile phone with a touch screen by
Sony Ericsson and keypad and compare what you will have with a normal ordinary iPhone.

Where do you guys live that "FM radio" is so wonderful?

I NEVER listen to the radio! Not in my home, not in my car, not on my phone! It's nothing but advertising and the incoherent ramblings of idiot shock-jocks. When they do play music it always the same 3 freaking songs. I swear, listen to the radio some day and you will hear the same shit over and over again. I would rather decide what music I listen to and not have to suffer through the senseless tripe that network radio offers.

I've used the radio in my w810i once, to see if it worked.

p.s. I do occasionally listen to NPR when I can (when I am in an area that offers an NPR station, where I live doesn't) otherwise I download the Podcast versions of the shows.

Just because you don't use it, doesn't mean that nobody in this earth thinks that FM-tuner is a must. I respect your personal preferences, but don't try to generalize them, because it is not mature. You use "I" all the time.
Also the ipods are almost the only mp3 players nowadays that they insist not integrading an FM-tuner. Even the cheapest mp3 player out there has one. It is great to listen to news and other stuff and some music sometimes that you don't have.
With this it makes me believe that apple is stubborn at somepoint.

you guys go ahead and argue amongst yourselves. iphone changes everything. the bar has been raised for all other mfg's and if they ever do catch up a newer iphone will already be there to take the lead! to those that dont have ipods because they want to "stand out" man you are missing out! they will gain considerable market share in an absurdly short amout of time, and theres nothin to stop that! come june, ill never have to deal with SE or Nokia crap again!

I think we will not see iPhone in Europe before 2008... and Apple in Europe is not so popular as in USA.

I think Apple in this case is biggest treat is for Motorolla... and in some parts for Sony Ericsson Walkman series

But don't be sad!

Competition allway's gives us a new and beautifull things! Maybe SE will release somethin even more interesting (with GPS, Radio, 3G and in future mindreader etc.)

The one thing is true - mobile phone will never be the same again...
