we're working on a mechanism to overcome this but there is great risk! if the MDL is copied to your C: drive and the mdl fails for some reason, there is a very, VERY good chance your phone cannot boot-up anymore. your only option then is to send it to a service centre to get it reflashed.

I never used this application so excuse me if this already is
possible. (I would use it if I had a Px00)
Anyway can't you just make an option named toggle autostart
or something simular and what it would do is check if the startup
file is on d: (the duo) if it is then remove it (toggle off)
if it isn't create it there (toggle on).
This way if ppl reformat their memory stick or switch between several
memory sticks all they have to do it start sman and click on that
option.
(I coded applications and see this as an very easy thing to do but
I never coded for symbian so can't really say if it's possible).
Just an idea though.

yes, that is quite easy to do and quite possible. ajack even suggested it as a fix to another issue actually - installing sman WITHOUT a memory stick in the phone. right now you can't do that. you need the MS to install sman.

the real issue of your phone's boot-up sequence being messed up is still there either way. in ajack's words - "we're giving the user a loaded gun".... and we don't want to be the reason for p800/900 users having to go back to SE for a re-flash of their phone.

BTW, for users who've had problems installing/uninstalling SMan on the p900 (with some weird error about something being In Use and cannot be removed), refer to the following my-symbian link -> http://www.my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11589

Why is this an issue? If the function just check if the file is on
the memorystick and put it there if there is an memorystick to access
and the file ain't there. If you can't boot then remove the memorystick
and boot. Don't put if on the internal mem where it's risky.
If you have it like this then you can install sman and use it and
you can easerly enable autostart IF theres a memorystick inserted.
Requirement for autostart would be to have a memorystick in the phone. (Sorry if I don't have the full picture of the problem)

no, you have it right. i misread what you typed.

that is the suggestion from ajack too for allowing sman to be installed on devices that don't have a D: drive.

it's something i will look into for v1.3

being a p800 owner i have used and loved sman- mainly for the bluejacking option.
Dont flame, but i have now bought a 6600 to go with my p800 and was wondering if sman could be ported to work on series 60 devices?

I'm having problems trying to uninstall Sman 1.2. I get the error message "A problem occured during the uninstallation. Access denied". Any help would be appreciated.

@droll

when updating to v1.2c, do you have to remove version 1.2b first?

you shouldn't need to remove 1.2b. 1.2c should know how to overwrite it. that's how i'm installing it to my p800 anyway.
