I think that what a company puts into a phone today is more a matter of choosing features they think will sell rather than technically being able to introduce them, combined with what the operators want in the phones and also what they do *not*want.
I'm sure that if Nokia wanted to they could make a p910 or k700 or whatever.
So it all comes down to marketing anyway.
That said, SE should urgently bring out a camera phone above the T230 in price. The Nokia's and Siemensens are selling like ice creal on a sunny day and it is hard to endure all those ugly phones around.

That's a very interesting point you raise about the networks. The Japanese networks dominate phone production, in the sense that they can dictate what features they want from the manufacturers. Network branding seems more important than the manufacturer's brand in Japan. I wonder if this will eventually be the case in Europe too.

I was an Ericsson user years ago and switched to Nokia because I was fed up of snapping the stubb antennae off the phone. once I got my hands on Nokia mobiles I loved them and stuck with Nokia for many years,
I was given a P800 last year for free and loved the useablility so much I have now bought the P910i (as the only thing about the P800 I hated was the looks and fact it squeaked when pressed) and passed the P800 on free to someone else who loves it, mind you they had a Nokia 3210
I am very impressed with SE and cannot envisage switching back (unless I get a free Nokia)

UIQ, which is used in P** series is not even developed or owned by SE. Both UIQ and UIQ3 (new thumb-based version) are being licensed by SE from Symbian. And we know Nokia owns nearly half of this company.
Contrast this to Nokia. Nokia developed and owned the Series60, 80 and the pen-based series90 UI for smartphone.
Just imagine that if one day Nokia manage to get control of Symbian, they can make life pretty difficult for SE by canning UIQ division in Symbian (since this division does not make business sense to Nokia).

Yes, I think it was pretty stupid by SE to break up with MS but I also think they can do it without help from MS. Regarding UIQ3.0 which I think looks much better than any Series and even Series 90. Symbian OS was not produced by Nokia so it is the same thing here and the fact that Series 90 doesn't support QVGA resolution is a real bummer. I'm very sure we will see UIQ 3.0 not only in Sony Ericsson's handsets but also for other mobile manufactures.
mib1800, I guess you want Nokia to take control of whole Symbian right? That is never going to happen as long Sony Ericsson use Symbian in their P-series. The only series UI that impress me is series 90 rest is just worse than UIQ 2.1. UIQ 3.0 does support different kind of menu structure which I think series 90 doesn't and nor do other series that.

I think u r evading the topic. You are not countering my point that Nokia is way ahead of SE in this area. My point basically debunk the myth held by many SE fans that SE is ahead of Nokia in technology.
You can say how good UIQ is over Series60/80/90 from Nokia. Then again UIQ is not SE technology. Let's say UIQ were to close shop tomorrow, the SE will be left with no smartphone platform.
If SE adopt UIQ3, i'm pretty sure SE would hv a lot of problems coming out with a stable phone. It is untested. Sendo and Siemens already hv some trouble with Series60 eventhougth Series 60 already in its 3rd iterations.

So? There are thousands of bugs in microsofts products, there have been for years, and they are the biggest company at what they do, so why should it be any different? So what if UIQ go out of business tomorrow? Thats a stupid point.

You don't think Sony Ericsson will start with a new OS from scratch, do you? Of course not, they will reunite with Microsoft and their OS programme.
Microsoft with unlimited resources together with big companies like Samsung, Motorola and so on will totally crush Symbian. Don't forget that Nokia only has 30% of the market share and it will never grow much bigger than that.
This very much will look like Windows XP/2000/Me/98 against Mac OS. I don't know how big share Windows has but I'm sure it is about 85 - 90%. Mac OS is only supported by one computer manufacture and that is themselves. The same thing will happen with Symbian if Nokia controls whole Symbian. That is how it is going to be if your dream come true.
Be realistic and stop dreaming about Nokia dominating Symbian. The mobile market is not about Nokia against SE it's Nokia against all.

in all my argument, most of the time i presented fact to backup my point on the issues.
my few previous posts are to state that Nokia is far more advance than SE in the smartphone software aspect. i.e. Nokia has built Series 60,80 and 90 platform whereas SE has develop none.
so maybe u should try to present something to show SE is more advanced with fact to backup and not just using big motherhood statement such "SE is the better than Nokia in technology" or "SE phones are much more advanced than Nokia"
