You can use a normal sim. You wont be able to use the 3g services though.

I heard and read that the k800/k790 has new Java platform 7 wich could support applications for recording video in 320*240 resolution or even higher.... Is that true???
And I have a few more questions:
-Is the video recording at least little better than k750's?
-How is the overall speed of the phone (browsing pictures, watching videos, browsing menus, playing high quality 3d java apps and games....)
-Does it have any FW problems so far (restarting with white screen (like good old K750), blocking, etc.)
???

Please answer....

Thanx in advance!

Pls....

I hear that video recording is slightly better than the K750.

The recording video picture might be slightly bigger due to the bigger and better screen, but I don't really know.

I also hear that the phone's speed is very good, picture browsing is almost instantaneously.

So far I don't think there have been any reports of bugs or firmware issues etc.

I can't wait to get my K800, comes soon this month (delivered), I just so want to have a fiddle and play with it.

Another question.

I can get K800i on O2 3G for minimum £19pm 12month contract and pay £50 for the phone. Total cost over the contract period £278

If I opt for GSM the phone is free but only on 18mth £30 minimum contract. Total cost over the contract period £540

The better deal appears to be 3G but I have no experience with 3G network.

Where is this from? It can't be O2 online as there is no difference in price or offer for 2.5g or 3g on O2 online. It makes no odds at all as you can use your inclusive minutes for video calls - sounds a bit fishy to me.

Click on All phones on their website shop. Search by Sony Ericsson phones. You will be left with three options for the K800i of which one is for their 3G network. Select this and you will be given two tariffs, an 18mth and a 12mth tariff. Either will cost you £49.99 for the phone and the cheapest contract is £19 p/m

Sounded such a good deal that I decided to order one. Just waiting for a confirmation e-mail (which may or may not arrive). Any ideas when I'm likely to get it delivered if it's in stock? Ordered 5pm today.

here's a pic showing my O2 version (with o2 theme) on right, and my hong kong generic version with its default theme (reminds me of star trek - generations dvd cover a bit) on the left

you can also see the slightly different keyboard with extra symbols on the generic one, though these don't remind me of the chinese style characters on my hong kong K700 so I'm not sure about them exactly

Ah! You were foxed by a badly designed website - go in tariff first you will see what I mean. They are all actually 3g offers - it's just that the other two are offers for those particular tariffs that they WANT you to choose. If you get a new connection you will automatically get a 3g sim. If it's an upgrade you are given the choice to activate over or not. In reality the 2.5g and 3g tariff offers are all exactly the same.

@ Masseur, great pics thanks.

With the O2 one, having an O2 theme hasn't replaced a/some original themes on the phone has it?

The great thing that I found with the o2 branded K800i is that all the O2 content can be delted. You never used to be able to do that. Delete the O2 pictures and you get normal startup and shutdown screens. The only o2 branding you cant loose is the link on the main menu.
