the O2 one I have here has always had normal startup and shutdown screens... thats what made me think in the shop that it was totally generic because I didn't have time to look further
but you're right, everything can be deleted and apart from the "o2 home" icon it can be considered as generic...
but I wonder if thats enough to require o2 firmware updates and thus we can expect some complaints from people wanting the latest upgrades which o2 are often slow at making available

Another question.
I can get K800i on O2 3G for minimum £19pm 12month contract and pay £50 for the phone. Total cost over the contract period £278
If I opt for GSM the phone is free but only on 18mth £30 minimum contract. Total cost over the contract period £540
The better deal appears to be 3G but I have no experience with 3G network.
Where is this from? It can't be O2 online as there is no difference in price or offer for 2.5g or 3g on O2 online. It makes no odds at all as you can use your inclusive minutes for video calls - sounds a bit fishy to me.
Click on All phones on their website shop. Search by Sony Ericsson phones. You will be left with three options for the K800i of which one is for their 3G network. Select this and you will be given two tariffs, an 18mth and a 12mth tariff. Either will cost you £49.99 for the phone and the cheapest contract is £19 p/m
Sounded such a good deal that I decided to order one. Just waiting for a confirmation e-mail (which may or may not arrive). Any ideas when I'm likely to get it delivered if it's in stock? Ordered 5pm today.
Ah! You were foxed by a badly designed website - go in tariff first you will see what I mean. They are all actually 3g offers - it's just that the other two are offers for those particular tariffs that they WANT you to choose. If you get a new connection you will automatically get a 3g sim. If it's an upgrade you are given the choice to activate over or not. In reality the 2.5g and 3g tariff offers are all exactly the same.
Not entirely sure what you mean as for the life of the 3G contract including the price of the phone the total cost will amount to only £278 compared to £540 for the non 3G contract. That's almost half the cost for 3G. I appreciate that you'll probably get more airtime and texts (more than I'll ever use) for the non 3G contract but I'd rather pay for what I need rather.

Are we going to have the same problem as before 4 months down the line with the lint in our pockets buggering up the stick?

Xugaa, thanks for that, I don't mind them in here at all, in fact I meant to get round to putting them in myself but I've been distracted tonight...!
It's just a shame that I can't get 3g to work, think o2 will need to send me another sim card, unless there are just settings I can download perhaps?

Has aynone got the phone on Orange yet? Did you get it as an upgrade or new contract? Is the phone officially available on Orange or are they just sim free phones with Orange sims?
