If it was my only machine I probably would but having a portable external will probably see me through to my next mac, I can also fill it up with files from the PC, and I can also carry 320GB of data with me when I don't need to take the iBook!
That said I may upgrade the HD in the future if a drive pops up for a reasonable price!

Handbrake.
Rips and encodes.
Or, if you just want a rip, then Mac The Ripper is a good choice.

Just means that it'll convert the ripped file into another file type, and adjust various factors like output resolution etc. in the process. In this context, at least.
