I think the new flagships will also have 16.9 display and rear mounted fps
Although i dont like rear fps.
Sony is a bit traditional so there is slim chance they adopt the newer aspect ratio
Newer aspect ratio also means less top and bottom bezels so they have to part ways with the strereo setup

No need to go 18:9 to trim bezels.
If top/bottom are about 1,2 cm is a huge improvement.
Current must be about 1.8cm.
Rear cam no longer is inside top bezel.
It is not woth to sacrifice the 13MP selfie and front speakers for tiny bezels like S8.


Mate 10 ( 16:9 5.9") has higher screen/body % than Mate 10 Pro ( 6" 18:9).
It kept front FPS, also it is shorter.
15cm tall just like S7 Edge .
