Its very much okay. Dont know if it is "wise" or otherwise..

I have been & am with both online & normal broker.

With normal broker, having a relationship & getting discounts etc helps.
I have had large negative balances for 2-3 days, that an ONLINE broker might NEVER allow. Though it was an one off situation with me trying to pay, money didn't transfer due to Banks' issues.

But then, Online brokers, let you control the show with more flexibility.
Most online brokers are too slow for a trader though (someone putting trade frequently).

Its as safe as things can be
