@JC: The business model employed by South African networks is to get as many subscribers on fixed term contracts. Contract subscribers spend more on calls and other services so it makes perfect sense. Selling a high-end phone for cheap with the obligatory sim card is no guarantee of any committment unless they start network locking phones.

Off topic: Hope the wanqsta is safe...haven't seen him the whole day:-(

@ da brixsta, Hobbster, et al:
Yeah, sorry for the rather belated responses; I've had an incredibly hectic day today. Under a fair amount of pressure with workload, pupil targets and data etc.
But ya, we're all OK thanks.

Experienced no seismic movements by our place at all last night, so was quite surprised to hear of an earthquake of 5.3 on the Richter Scale this morning.
It did apparently affect parts of London, but the epicentre was further up north in Lincolnshire, but spread further north into yorkshire and right into Wales in the west and of course down here in the south.

None of the kids or staff, bar one of the cleaners who lives a little further away in Forest gate, east London, seemed to experience it either, so I guess we're pretty fortunate from that perspective.
Fortunately no fatalities; have to say that I'm quite surprised to hear about it, as there was one last year (which we also didn't experience), but since the 30's, there's only been a handful of earthquakes, and this one was the second most powerful one that the UK has experienced, since records began.

Are you serious? R4000 for a phone...no ways, add a couple of grand to that amount and you've got yourself a decent laptop. Or have you looked into the special offer Vodacom are running with Apple...for R588/month you can get a MacBook with Vodacome Connect Modem along with a .Mac account with 10Gigs of online storage...that beats any other offer I've seen.

@da wanqsta: Glad to hear that you've not been kept busy clearing up debris but instead the grind that comes from being a teacher.

@HOBBS: I won't be requiring a walking stick for about another forty-odd years. I still insist that R4000 is too much to pay for a cellphone when there are better offers about on contract.
