it would be absolutely silly for sony to put a screen in Z1 that's not as good as ZU's or comparable to the Z's after all the praise ZU has gotten and all the crap the Z has gotten.
I certainly hope they aren't THAT ballsy. less than a week til we find out. I'm really looking forward to it!!!
now.. if i could just pre-order one. this is the crappy thing about being an american.. sigh.

I knew that the Z and ZL screen was not that good (it was one of the reason why I passed) but guys...! this really show the difference in tech and how much the triluminos screen looks good
I know that Z and ZL had that bad gray color for menus and bars and this really detract point when comparing them to others, but still the screen is on another level!

Actually I've been importing my phones up until the last 4 years because America never gets the good phones or gets them literally a year later. Shipping wasn't that expensive, and for most part, cheaper than getting it in the US. I also had the luxury of just buying the phone in Hong Kong since I or a family member visit quite often. Though, like you say, no warranty since it's a grey market product. But I remember that SONY USA use to honor non US version of their SE phones, not sure if it's the same anymore. Claimed warranty for my K800i once. I highly recommend Plemix if you're going the import route. Negri Electronics is also good because they will help you claim warranty at the country of origin, but they're a bit expensive compare to Plemix.
Plemix is actually cheaper by $55 with the C6602 model of Z compare to Newegg(cheapest non grey market price).

@moogoo yea relative to the phone price if you add the opportunity cost of waiting for it to release from certified us retailers its not so bad.. usually end up being cheaper for me. the warranty is questionable but sony has been excellent to me and their high end products regardless of where ive purchased from, from PS3 to my MDR's (2 foreign units repaired). I dont think that because you purchase from another country that voids the warranty, its still a sony product.
we should ONLY expect ONE device, and anything extra, is just that... need to adapt our temperment, however everything, and i do mean EVERYTHING funnels through esato before it blows up. Central SMC hub..
for having made such a large deal about the bezel for them to release a phone with that SOLE intention, for them to ignore that progress and make a device with an even smaller ratio seems to defy logic. you should see the research they did analyzing hundreds of devices.. yet i dont expect to see a ZL1 however much i would love for it to exist. Either way this Z1 should meet my fancy for a while... I just hope we can get decent storage (64GB)
IF the device has 4K, i hope that Sony implements Global Shutter.. that would be AMAZING!
