I checked out the Samsung Galaxy S3 in a store last week and what I observed really shocked me
First just checked the performance, didn't seem much faster than my XS at all. At best, its slightly faster.
Next I decided to compare the screen against my XS. And boy was I shocked
. I knew the Xperia S screen was better but I didn't expect the difference to be so vast. I played a Samsung 1080p demo video on both (same vid) and boy was the Galaxy S3 screen dim and on the whole dull with not much fine detail !. Xperia S was way sharper and details very crystal clear on it compared to the S3. And everyone else in the store agreed the XS was way better as well, even the Samsung rep ( Well she was a secret Sony fanGIRL anyway

You are supposed to
read the (f) manual.
At page 133 (Eng) it says
To force restart your phone
1 Press and hold both the
volume up key and the
power key for
five seconds.
2 After your phone
vibrates once, release the keys. The phone restarts
automatically.
To force a phone shutdown
1 Press and hold both the
volume up key and the
power key for
10 seconds.
2 After your phone
vibrates three times, release the keys. The phone turns off
automatically.
Hmm I wonder if that would work anyway, after all, when phone freezes, means it can't really accept any command, just like on PC, we can press and hold ctrl+alt+del many times, it still don't guarantee restart. The one and only true restart is to cut off the power for short time (remove the battery or press "restart" button). Does this mean Xperia S doesn't have an restart button, and the only means to do so is this lame combination of keys and hope it will work?

Yep I guess we have to hope it works. When mine froze last night, the screen and transparent strip were both lit and no input made any difference. I wish I had known to try the reset key combination then!

Even next to a GS2 the GS3 isnt that much faster. I think we're at a point where there's not much that can be added in terms of speed anymore, these phones are already seriously fast, where it begins to matter is for how long it stays like that though, after you've loaded the apps, games and media you want and have had it for a few months, this is where im interested in seeing how the Sonys do in ICS, as with the old ones the launcher would have to reload and RAM management would go downhill and a format would be needed eventually, im hearing a lot of horror stories with Arc S on ICS, i hope the NXT phones like the XS wont do this.

Of course it works, it's still a hardware reset. There is absolutely no reason to doubt that it will work
The RESET button on (older) PCs does not cut the power either, it sends an NMI (non-maskable interrupt) to the system and the button combination for resetting the XPERIA S uses the same mechanism, it has nothing to do with the Ctrl+Alt+Del mechanism.

Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del = software reset while pressing a reset button/key = hardware reset.
The volume up/power key combo on the Xperia S is a hardware reset and will therefore always work as expected :]
And yes it works, I have "tried" both

My SI number is in there but I plugged my phone into my laptop and it says I have the latest software still. How do these work? Does it mean sometime today I will get the update or what?
EDIT: Should I be concerned that my SI number from the back of my phone does not match any of the numbers shown in the service menu? My SI number is apparently 1257-0884, but that's not mentioned here at all:
