I am almost certain, after doing so much research on the displays panel.. that sony is using S-PVA panel with triluminos.
the S-PVA panels were devolped by a joint between samsung and sony. although sony has sold their share to samsung in 2011.

what does that mean ?

Great viewing angles
great and fast response time
Great Contrast ratio

so yeah that is an awesome screen we got there on the XPERIA Z1.

Apart from the yellow hue that some users are experiencing.

You've got to hand it to Samsung. They hid one of the most relevant and important aspects of a screen, the brightness, and caused a frenzy over one of the least relevant aspects of a screen, the viewing angles.

The brightness on amoleds are unforgivablely bad, yet no one says a word - too occupied with viewing angles.

That's one of the things I don't like about my S4
And one of the things I like about the Z1

would the viewing angle problem in the samsung phones be down to the subpixel arrangement? as in pentile vs regular RGB?

well guys due to the DHL van driver not seeing a postcode or phone number in the invoice he took the package back to the depot, I had to call them today to clarify the details and is going back on the van tomorrow

In the mean time lets get some more feedback on the screen quality for those that have got the device already, I noticed one guy who bought 2x Z1's from Clove and was stating he was not happy with the screen contradicting what others have found.......strange

Is it really possible that some people are coming on here and making up purchase stories and trying to discredit the Z1 - is it possible ?

Who knows, but personally I don't think so. It's perfectly plausible that some who have got there Z1 from Clove are experiencing such flaws with the display.

Z1 vs Note 3

check out the screens

this review said Z1 only has mono speaker. wonder if that's true or not.

I think that might be accurate.
Look at the teardown, in this picture that white thing on the bottom could be the speaker, there's only one of them.
On the other side of the speaker grill there could be the microphone.

BTW:
There's also a speaker comparison between Z1 and Note 3 in the review evilhomura89 posted.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP5Ov4zcJE0

Z1: 80.5 dB
Note 3: 86.6 dB

Even though the Note 3 sounds much better and louder, 80.5 dB are decent I think.

after reading that whole article (well written IMO) there is a clue at the bottom that again explains why the screen is reported as the same as the Z ASV - at the time of the review they had no idea on price or availability of the retail handset in their region which would indicate again as we have found on many early reviews - that the test device was a preproduction model or prototype - the review credibility gets shafted even though it was very well done

For thise that have the phone already it could be easy to prove my point by looking at the pixels through a microscope and see if they are the same as above

They just speculate, they don't know for sure.

In the technical characteristics of the company Sony, like many other manufacturers, indicates that the matrix is applied type TFT, without specifying its specific type. Perhaps, in this smartphone is set matrix type ASV.

(that's just google translate)

It should be noted (everyone prob knows this already, but just in case) that since decibels work on a logarithmic* scale, the values posted above would make the Note 3 more than 50% louder than the Z1.

(e.g 90 decibels vs 80 decibels is 10 times more intense but is perceived as twice as loud to the human ear)
