I've not found many indepth posts about this phone.

Mobile -review have done a reasonable review of it and I must say SE could have made a bit more of an effort for a mid range phone.

I still want one though.

Anyone heard any definate news on a release date yet? CPW have it as July '06 others have sept '06.

Just sent my N80 back and cancelled the contract. I should never have left SE. I realise how user friendly they are as appossed to Nokia. So I have gone back to my 2 year old K700 and I still can't really fault it.

But I am now desperate to get hold of this new SE. Any input would be great to supress my anticipation!

Well there are no in-depth reviews of this phone yet because this phone has not been released yet! The only reason why mobile-review has a review is because they always get the prototype phones first from EVERY manufacturer. Other sites just have to wait till the phone is just about to be released.

Another disappointed SE fan here…

I was rather excited about getting the W850, but thought I’d take a look at Esato as I usually do before a buy. Man…
It’s really a big surprise to find out that this model has a worse camera than my W800. I expected it to be able to produce at least same quality pictures, and possible also better video. I have changed my mind about getting it now. What a lame move from SE.

No news of the W850 getting released anywhere yet? This phone has been growing on me steadily... Im still hoping that at the last minute, they change the cam module to an AF one

Cmon , I can put up with the pink lighting of the d-pad and the basket-weave design of the back (not to my taste); I dont need BestPic; I dont need the xenon flash; I dont even need the 3.2MP cam. Forget about PictBridge. I just want a 2.0 camera with autofocus. I want my macro mode.

Otherwise I'll be facing the challenge of mustering enough self-control to not get this phone and instead hold out for the next with an AF-ing camera

I think that now it's idealistic to hope for auto-focus on new phones. Even the Z/W710 don't have auto-focus or a flash for their cameras. The W710 doesn't every have a self portrait mirror.

Hi, since yesterday sony ericsson ireland site lists the w850i as "available"... And vodafone ireland told me in an e-mail a couple of weeks ago they were testing it - I suppose to see how they can screw it up efficiently. I suppose it's just another phone we'll never see here in ireland,
so if any of you ever buy 2 by mistake... you know where to contact me.

@shaliron WE drive the market. if the market does not respond well to AF-less phones, will take notice. honestly, though, i can hardly picture the w850 not doing well in the market.

Of course I hope phones get auto-focus, but the general market (most people) really don't know the meaning of auto-focus. Megapixels are more important in the eyes of the majority. You would need a lot of people to turn down the latest batch of phones for that to happen. So even if a percentage of us do complain, it probably won't be enough for SE to justify putting auto-focus modules in phones.

Since when was there a W830? I've heard nothing of the sort. All we know is an upgraded W950 with a 3.2 mp cam, no word on the Nvidia processor and the numbering of W830 is pretty wrong. I mean, that's even lower than the W900. But at risk of going off topic, we should go here
