It has been a very long time that I have handled a mobile phone that has been perfect out of the box, whether it is Nokia, SE or whatever.
I know this is not the HTC thread but I would hate to think how people would have reacted if the keyboard of 2-3 P990's was not functioning properly!! Or the screen needed alignement..
We need to be more objective when expressing opinions about new complex devices..These machines are really complex and one does buy them expecting and knowing that at some point they will be upgraded. The fact that Nokia have put up a SE type firmware update service proves in a way that problems may arise with their new devices..
I have handled both N93 and N73 recently and they both had issues i do not want to go into right now..
I think people chose what suits ther needs best..Reliability and quality provided by a certain manufacturer will determine wether a customer stays with them or moves across the road..
The P990 vs TyTN thread has been really indicative of how complex electronic products compare and how people can freely an democratically back up their preferences..
I have not been here a long time but i really enjoy exchanging views with you guys..
The P990 is a leading product despite being a year late to come out. This fact alone underlines the complexity of the device. SE should be more careful about when they make their new product anouncements and when they can deliver..

By the way I have done a second update (being more careful re reformating prior to update etc..) and this has solved some minor issues on today shortcuts etc..
After deleting the native applications immediately after upgrade (games, demo...) i managed to get 15.9 Mb starting memory..
I can live with the phone more hapilly now..I am sure they will get it better in the future..

I have done some more testing from my buzzing keyboard it seems like it is causd by the back-light and coming from the area directly under the keyboard. When the phone goes into a standy state i.e screen goes off I get silence.
Only happens when flip is down or removed. The lights on the flip cuase no problems.

Back to the upgrade subject: If it's not needed to have a full battery, why can't I just connect the usb to the cradle and do the upgrade while charging? And another question: Is it needed to have installed the pc-suite for p990 to upgrade or does the exe-file find the phone by the usb? thanks in advance

@Osmano
USB charging is not recommended for the first main charge - from my experience (unless the USB is to a powered PC without going via a USB hub). Also I find the mains charger is quicker (you know the OS is not running during the upgrade so I don't think USB charging would work anyway).
No need for PC suite, just the SEUS s/w.

@osmano
It would be safer to have a full batttery prior to the urgrade.
Yes, you can update the firmware without having the PC suite installed.

No need to do a master reset. Try the trick with running the demo video, then pausing it, and then go and select a few menus and see if performance improves - did you hear about this one? Seems video uses graphics acceleration which can speed-up the UI. i've deleted my videos (!) so can't try at work at the moment.
Hmmm very interesting Jah, thanks for that tip...must have missed it earlier. I tried it and it seems like the UI is slightly faster although on the demo video if you pause it, the video and sound is out of synch...again dont know if thats a bug or something but yes seems to have made the menus slightly faster.
Right well time to restore the phone back to the way i like it set up.
"slightly fast"??? are you kidding??? with this trick the menus doble the speed, at least...guess this is sign of things to come...the OS can be optimized to be lightning fast

I agree! What a speed! I cant even see the animation when you access the activity-meny.
Makes you wonder why the menys isn't faster.. can it be a battery-issue? We all know that more CPU-speed takes more battery.. maby the phone is downgraded when not looking at videos...

I thought it was possible to have both the charger and the usb into the cradle at the same time. Then it will charge and be conected to a pc at the same time?.....

No im not kidding, some of you are saying double the speed..lightning fast etc etc but the speed is all objective. Yes the video trick does speed the menu's up somewhat, definite improvement ill admit but not that super fast as some claim the menus have become

.
The thing is every time you turn the phone on and off, you then have to do teh video trick dont you?? or is it now saved in the phone so that the menus are always fast??.
