Has this actually been tested on an iPod touch? Those web-sites all say its for the iPhone.

Does anyone have confirmation yet that Apple haven't changed things, and that the same methods work on the touch?

It'll be great if Apple have left open all the same hack methods, but judging by their current business practises, I wouldn't be surprised if they've made further attempts to block people being able to (relatively simply) copy full apps from an iPhone to an iPod touch...

Still ordered a 16GB iPod touch anyway... Roll on 1st-ish Ocrober...

Well there was a source from apple at a large site, i think it was gizmodo, that said that both devices use the exact same binaries (well, apart from the calendar now). So it should work, but like i said before, the actual "jailbreaking" process is probably going to be a bit different.

Just been following the chat on the #iTouch IRC channel where the iPhone hackers are trying to hack the iPod Touch.

So far they've discovered:

- Jailbreaking doesn't work
- RAM disks are encrypted (they're not in the iPhone)
- Different root passwords, not yet discovered
- The downloadable firmware updated is encrypted with different passwords

So, not much to report yet! Looks like Apple have locked it down a bit tighter than the iPhone!!

http://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/20/ipod-touch-state-of-the-jailbreak/

Hackers have still got almost nowhere with 'jailbreaking' the iPod touch.

Looks like installing the missing iPhone apps is going to happen anytime soon.

They're also speculating that the next iPhone update will include the same security measures and prevent jailbreaking etc.
