Symbian 3 isnt going to get ported over to the Satio. Forget it.

man, the N8 is getting proclaimed a failure already by many.. Is Symbian this bad?

But its not. When are you going to realise this ?

Listen, the whole world at the minute is in total love with Apple and Android. They just cannot do anything wrong with their user interface because of the way its made.

Every time i hear opinions from anyone about Android, just like that Stuff review, the reviewer says its not as good as Android because its not as slick. Look out for these words when you listen to peoples opinions. You'll see a patern emerge from it that shows just how blind the whole world is to Android and iOS.

Android and iOS are both very impressive operating systems because they're very fast to use, very slick, well animated, touch optimised, basically they're just a dream to use because they feel so natural and speedy.

How did Apple and Android do this ? well first off they concentrated on the Graphical User Interface - which is basically the software which sits between the user and the programming of the phones OS. Before GUI's were invented, users of computers had to manually punch in programming code to get the computer to do what they wanted. Android and Apple have very nice modern day GUI's, they're made to be that way. Sadly, because of all this concentration on giving the user a nice and pleasurable experience of using the OS, they've neglected core functionality that you'd find on a mature OS. In other words, Android and iOS have evolved from being pretty first, then bringing their brains to the table second. If Android or Apple were footballers (soccer players to you US folks), they'd both be David Beckham.

Symbian is different. It has evolved from being a smartphone OS first, then secondly its attempted to bring its pretty looks to the table like Android and Apple have. Sadly, the truth is iOS and Android are both prettier. Fortunately, Symbian has the brains behind it. If Symbian was a footballer, it would be a football manager rather than an actual player.

Sadly, the world is fickle. We all prefer beauty over brains. The media especially such as in those links who slag off Symbian is just demonstrating this. Maybe in a years time like i predict, Android will be better than Symbian, but its not yet no matter how much people try to brain wash me into thinking it to be true.

Im buying the N8 for its camera, Ovi apps, Ovi maps, build quality, media capabilities and i know it'll be a quality handset being from Nokia.

I cannot buy any Android phone for use as my main phone since they all have reasonable or poor cameras, with the exception of the X10, they all seem to feel cheap and plastic compared to Nokia or SE phones, no free mapping software and next to useless apps most of the time.

I cannot buy an iPhone for the same reasons. The camera might be nice, but i do not use a dedicated digital camera anymore. I always use my phone now, so again the iPhone 4 falls flat on its flat face (or back) for me. The complete lack of multitasking is also a deal breaker for me.

Im bored of this Symbian hating, its pathetic, most of the people on this very forum or other forums have grown up with the OS and you'd think they'd give it a bit more respect. They consider buying an Android phone an upgrade because they're easily blinded by its nice GUI. I consider it a downgrade, moreso when i want to perform such a simple function and find there is no such option in the various menus to accomplish a task.

Like i said, i'll have to give other operating systems another year before i can risk the "upgrade", because at the minute they're not worth the headaches id get from not being able to do something simple.

@ HxH - im not sure about the shape of the N8 and how it affects holding it with one hand to take a picture but i will test this when mine arrives. Ive been told the N8 will be released on 22nd October in the UK by Carphone Warehouse staff this morning.

My brother has bought an iPhone4.

Most of its apps are just targeted to show-off purposes.

Funny that these show-off people usually like to take pictures at parties. I just cannot imagine how those LED flash units would suffice.

You don't like your brother very much (anymore)?

Now, why cant Nokia do something like this in the UK !?

Nokia N8 feeds video to the largest cinema screen in the world - see link

@ Vit - this is exactly my point, everyone is banging on about how great the iPhone 4 is yet most of the apps for it are novelty. They do not enrich the phone or add otherwise missing functionality at all. Its so frustrating !

You mean apps like QuickOffice, Filer, AutoStitch, Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, Adobe Photoshop Express, etc?
