It's quite a long-read if you follow all the parts.
The beginning of the Saga - quite literally.
I feel so sorry for Entropy512, codeworkx and so many others.
I now HATE Samsung. Wow, what idiots. And my respect for Sony has increased.

They also support and respect their consumers with regular updates of Android and software perks which add functionality.
Rival products are on paper very much the same, but when you step back and look at the bigger picture they're actually really far behind Samsung. Hardware wise, HTC are usually only a little behind Samsung, but their devices just arent a patch on the whole Galaxy S experience. I remember watching last years S3 announcement and in one of the promotional videos before they unveiled the S3 at all, were some user comments of what they expected from the next Galaxy. One of them was something like a friend who comes everywhere with you - and thats what Samsung do. I do more on my S3 than i ever did with Symbian phones im sad to admit, even if i find Android limiting in other ways.
The other manufacturers just cannot get the
whole package idea correct, which is why they're paying for it with poor market share and a bleak future.
This simply proves my point that tastes differ.
For you the perceived strengths (advantages) of S3 overcome its weaknesses. Actually you deny it has any weaknesses, because they simply do not affect your overall experience with the phone.
For me S3 is not ahead of for example Xperia T. All the "advantages" of S3 you mentioned mean nothing to me as a developer. In fact I see at least 6 quite disturbing weaknesses in S3 that I don't see for example in Xperia T.
You believe that the majority of buyers share your view. I disagree, but I don't think they share mine either
I think that the majority of buyers are uneducated, they do not know what they are buying and can never use the full potential of the devices they buy.

Presicely. I actually like the whole "Life Companion" tag line, Samsung have moved on from just showing you the regular specs, now they are talking about how your smartphone is your tool, and how it will try understand you, it's quite scary yet that is where technology is going in the long run.
This article is also very true and goes with what we are saying to a certain extent:
Apple is "losing the war of words" says former exec
You may have noticed that Apple has become a bit more direct when commenting on the competition, recently. For a long time, Apple refused to directly comment or even mention that competition existed, but Apple's head of marketing Phil Schiller was quite direct when commenting on the Samsung Galaxy S 4. And, at least one former Apple exec was not impressed.
The former exec is Jean-Louis Gassée who was the head of the Macintosh team at Apple during the John Sculley years, and started the project that eventually became the Newton. Monsieur Gassée was apparently not impressed with the fearmongering that Schiller did following Samsung's announcement. Monsieur Gassée wrote in a column:
"Attacking competitors, pointing to their weaknesses, and trumpeting one’s achievements is better done by hired media assassins. A company, directly or through a PR firm, engages oft-quoted consultants who provide the required third-party stats, barbs, and encomiums. This isn’t theorizing, I once was a director at a company, one of many, that used such an arrangement to good effect."
Gassée went on to say that Apple was "losing the war of words", and that "others have seized the opportunity to drive the narrative." Quite strong words from a former Apple exec.

I agree with RandomCarpet here, majority of the buyers don't even know what they're buying, they're just told "its the best thing you can buy right now" and then of course, the consumer having no knowledge about it, is inclined to believe that it is the best they can buy. (Perfect example was when I saw people buying DSLRs because it became popular, and then see them use auto settings lol, what a waste of money, they paid for something they don't even use, they only paid it for bragging rights)
I had a laugh at that article Tsepz posted GALAXY S 4 COULD HELP SAMSUNG ‘UNSEAT APPLE AS KING OF INNOVATION’ this just proves RandomCarpet's point that "the majority of buyers are uneducated" let me ask since when did Apple become king of innovation? what did they exactly invent that is innovative? if you ask me I'd say they've got it backwards, imagine you cannot even send files through bluetooth when the reason it was invented is to be able to share files easily. I can name a few more disadvantages, but I'm going off topic now.
As for the S4, in my opinion, true it is a great phone, but is it really that great? nope, to me it's just as good as HTC's and Sony's flagship, they all run android and do what a smartphone does. Sony having an advantage with it being water and dustproof which is literally something the other two flagship does not have. I'd also like to add that water proof means very minimal moisture could enter the phone, thus reducing the chance of damaging the internal components from moisture damage/corrosion.

you see that is purely your opinion too, what works for you does not always works for others, the thing is, the end result will be the same even if you used a different brand of smartphone.

reeflotz, If you say that the majority of buyers don't know what they are buying you might as well call them stupid. People do not buy what they don't like or don't want just because it is popular, that would make everybody buying a Samsung or an iPhone
Topic now : I believe the S IV will be a success due to it's features and performance and the fact that Samsung has delivered some great phones the last couple of years, people know what they are getting

I must say there are alot of people I see around who buy these handsets(average consumer) and they don't know how to use these features although it's nice to see Samsung do the simple menu mode in their handsets now for the less tech heads,or for new Android users. Some bloke in O2 pointed that he wanted a Lumia 620 and the guy mentioned GS3 and he said what do I need that big thing for. Everyone is different.
