I know according to the manual, we can't put the phone under the seawater, but I've used my Z1 and Z under the seawater without problem. I guess the new additional statement is to avoid warranty claim.

salt water and corrosion maybe, it will damage the metal parts of the exposed usb.

I have been unfortunately enough to put most of the flagship sony xperia phones under water, here are the results:

Xperia S: failed
Xperia TX: failed
Xperia V: Success
Xperia Z: Success (under salt water)
Xperia Z tablet: Success
Xperia Z Ultra: Success
Xperia Z1: Success
Xperia Z1 compact: Success
Xperia Z2: Failed, phone not broken, but screen takes days to return to normal
Xperia Z2 tablet: Success
Xperia Z3: Success, but port cover breaks 2 weeks after first purchase
Xperia Z3 compact: Failed, phone not broken, but NFC failed permenantly
Xperia Z3 tablet compact: success
Xperia Z3+: success
Xperia Z4 table: Success

I am actually much more confident with Z3+ without the port cover, as I no longer have to worry about insecure covers

Z3 is NOT saltwater proof I can assure you. I am lucky Sony honoured my warranty and replaced my D6653 with a D6633

Some new interesting details about z5 devices, features are explained. For example, the premium is said to have superior viewing angles when viewing pictures, the same battery life of z5 thanks to memory on display tech and bigger battery, bigger battery thanks to a thinner panel, the reason for increased devices thickness is the finger print reader not the camera sensor, game and web browsing will be shown in fhd, pictures and videos in 4k, and more.
