A few questions if someone with the technical knowledge could help out...
If the s700 has a 1.3mega camera what are the typical jpeg file sizes likely to be at that resolution?
Most network operators have max message sizes for mms of around 100k (to the best of my knowledge - please correct me if I'm wrong). Is this for technical reasons, or just a way making sure MMS is economic (ie the price per message remains substantially higher than the price to transmit)?
I'm just interested if we'll be able to send these large pictures over the air (excluding bluetooth/ir etc). Obviously it wouldn't be hard to scale down the resolution on the handset and send smaller messages if you have to, but will we have to?

Ok, here we go again. You are quoting Nokia, a supplier of networking equipment, where they say their networking equipment is selling well, and that EDGE is a viable technology. FlyingFinn, you redefine the word gullable.

Second, your other release, from a interest organisation for the Telecommunications companies, where it says EDGE is a successfull technology, is equally uninteresting. OF COURSE THEY WILL SAY THIS!
They said it about Wap, about Wap2.0, and about EMS. Each of these technologies were going to rock the world of telecommunications. The customers however, responded with a big yawn.
The FACT: EDGE is about 2.5 times faster than GPRS. Nobody(ie, most of the public) will care about using 10 seconds to send an image instead of 5 seconds. They will however, be more interested in the added functionality of UMTS. So you can come back and troll some more when Nokia has a proper UMTS handset released.
FlyingFinn and SuperG's half assed attempts at promoting an uninteresting technology as the downfall of SE is amusing at best. You should in fact applaud SE, because they deliver what the public wants, something Nokia used to be the master of, but has failed miserably with the least few years.

sorry i am to lazy to read every page in this discusion so i am sorry if this was asked before. Does the s700 have duo pro support or just duo. I havnt seen an article yet that has mentioned duo pro but I would find it pretty dumb if sony doesnt support their own new technology.

I'd find that hard to believe if it was true though, especially given the time frame of this phone

Yes, it IS more credible. Do you even understand what EDGE is? EDGE is nothing new, The infrastructure suppliers has had this in the plans for 2-3 years, and it is intended as a stop gap between 2G and 3G. Problem is, nobody wants it. Those who do, will switch over to UMTS and its higher transfer speeds immediately as soon as it becomes available.
And, you have been proven wrong by listing many of the countries that are supposedly EDGE ready, as I have told you when it comes to Norway and Sweden, and others have covered other countries. I still stand by my prediction, that EDGE will slowly melt away as UMTS gets more and more available. Just like, Wap1.0, WAP2.0 and EMS. Yes they still exist, but they did not revolutionize the industry as they was supposed to, same goes for EDGE.
