Can't really compare T610 to a 3650. they're not in the same category since 3650 is a smartphone. If you removed the symbian from the 3650, they'd be in the same class and the T610 would whoop its ass.

To use a, by now, clichéd example, commuters differ in each of the three areas I mentioned to you. Americans by and large use cars for transport, whether that is to get them to work or anywhere else for that matter. Both Europeans and Japanese utilise public transport to a far greater degree than Americans. Your average European or Japanese commuter therefore has a great deal more time each day to spend using their phone's features than the average American worker who will be driving himself.
Certainly in Britain a great number of people who take public transport will have their mobiles out of their pockets the second they set foot on a train, for example. They will be checking for e-mails, sending texts or pictures or videos, they might be playing games or surfing the internet, the same is even more true of the Japanese who have mobile coverage in their underground system allowing them to do all that I have mentioned whilst on the subway. Americans on the other hand have far less time to use their mobile phone's data features whilst travelling as predominantly they will be driving.
This can be translated into which type of handsets are popular in respective countries. Japanese and increasingly more Europeans are looking for handsets with advanced features that they know they will be using on a daily basis. Many Americans are simply looking for a handset that can make decent phone calls, they aren't too interested in the more advanced features because they know that they won't have a huge number of opportunities to utilise such features on a daily basis.
This is just one cultural difference, if one looks one can find quite a few that result in different mobile communication habits from country to country.
This isn't a slight on America; it is simply a cultural difference.
P.S. Where are you from?

I don't think that it's necessary, but it can be useful. I don't really use mine a great deal, but it is a useful feature.

dont forget Asia PARTICULARLY the Philippines...Pinoys love to customize their phones...they like to dress it up (facia) on what style they want. As an SMS capital of the world, were up to be the next MMS capital of the world...so cameraphones are very popular. Using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, but everybody is still doing it...so headsets especially

headsets are very popular.
Market are mostly dominated by nokia on children, students & the senior citizens.

is commonly used by young professionals & actors. Siemens by the outdoor type...

The first megapixel camera phones have just come out in the UK so I imagine that we shall see an increase in the number of people using camera phones here. There is a real possibility that camera phones may start to seriously encroach on the digital camera market. Integration is the future.
