They might have an edge when it comes to software but definitely not when it comes to hardware. They are behind SE in almost all aspects.
The fact that SE has their own UI in K700 which in my opinion is far better than any Nokia non smartphone just shows that Nokia isnt that superior in software as you might believe. The very same OS or whatever I should call it for, support QVGA resolution, just look at S700 and that is something not even your lovely series 90 does. True edge over SE right?

@mckinley:

K700 has a better screen resolution. but 6230 hv memory slot and EDGE.

S700 win in the camera and screen resolution. but then again 7610 is a smartphone.

say u r comparing V800 with 6630, then 6630 is better because it has EDGE and is a smartphone.

i think u r way too overconfident when u declare that SE is ahead in hardware.

se maybe more advanced techonlogy wise but is this what consumers want.
lets face facts samsung motorola and nokia over the last few years have dominated the mobile market and i agree that there phones are not a tech as se but maybe those companies have it right. there market shares have grown at the expense of nokia but have se capitalised by been so advanced no they creep up .5% while the other 2 have jumped up by much more.
so are these companies that far behind or just reacting to what the customer wants
i often get the feeling with se (like ericsson) that they only aim at techy users, fine if you have a product that can generate massive profit by selling higher , similar to the motor industry ie aston martin vs a focus. same company differnet price ranges and experiences
but in the tech field margins between companies are very similar and desirablity isnt much differnet.
i dont think many kids will be ripping down there aston martin posters and replacing them with se ones

slattery69,
To draw a paralell between cars and mobile phones is really not a good way to argument.

mib1800,
I can accept that Sony Ericsson should had have memory slot in their K700 but edge is totally unnecessary thing for us in Sweden and in the rest of Westerneurope. 3G network covers 80% of Sweden and in Germany, 3G also works good. Don't you think it is unfair to compare non smartphone with a smartphone?
It is not that Nokia can do things that Sony Ericsson can't . Sony Ericsson has things that Nokia still lacks in.

Feel free to let me know why i cant draw comparisons is it cause it may be a valid arguement at the end of the day we are taking about consumer goods be they cars or phones and the business principle is the same with both.If cars are not your bag then change the car part to a vertu phone these carry a very high price but are seen a designer and must items. se needs to work out where it is a mass producer of phones or a small supplier but with high mark up. if they want to be seen as market leaders in technology then they need to let consumers know why having a 262k screen is an advantage why there phones are so much better than the competition. sadly they dont do this, they seem to assume customer should know this.most people on this site already know this hence the fact we are here but the general public dont most people just look and go oh it s an se phone probably like my exisiting nokia or samsung

I was thinking of that. Why have a poster of a mobile phone you see frequently?

There was an interesting post made earlier, which mentioned how SE need to make up their minds about, which segment of the market they will appeal to. If SE are to appeal to high-end users I would have thought that the use of the same OS as Nokia, for smartphones, would be a hinderance.
SE really do need to decide, which direction they are going in and quickly.

I think u hv to be objective when u r debating this. Yes, u may not need EDGE but someone else does. Let's say I were to take your approach, then I can also make a point that who needs SE high resolution screen because u can bare see different at all. Or how about this. Why do u need nice fanciful 3D animated icons which does nothing except slow down the UI.

Wasnt my intention to compare smartphone with non-smartphone. Nowadays, most of Nokia high end phones are smartphones. I am just comparing the phone s their respective target segments.

While I am at it, maybe I shoot another point. Nokia has an edge in the mid-to-high end phone because in addition to providing expected phone functions, Nokia also throws in the smartphone capability for free.

Maybe I should reverse ur last statement to "Nokia still have things that SE lacks in".

@mib1800

EDGE really isn't a desirable feature for the vast majority of users, at least as far as Western Europe is concerned.
