Nice one! Must say E61i is quite attractive, my uncle got one and it looks SOO much better than my dad's E61.
Gola
Thats good bro, are you going to get it there?
Rhyno
R8139!!? For a W960? Thats ridiculous, i mean it's a great phone but for that much you could get a N82, HTC TyTN-II, or even a N95-1.
Siosal
Man drop that K850, ive heard nothing but problems about that phone.
Kyle
Shame bro, just hope Voda can give you a great deal on the N81 or otherwise i guess go for a W910.
@ All
ONE MORE EXAM AND THEN IM ON HOLIDAY FOR A MONTH! WOOOOHOOOO!!

@ GUCCI - A month
Lucky you bro.
Hope your exams went well and you achieved straight A's across the board like a 'good Gucci boi'. (halo floating above his head)
Some of Vodacoms package prices are insane I will agree.
But I suppose these phones are becoming like little mini computers so...yeah.
And isnt there those taxes that have to be paid to bring these phones into the country.
They always mention that in the Vodacom magazine.
That they would love to cut the prices of phones but cant because of those hefty taxes.

So how transparent are they as regards how much they pay in taxes, i.e. %-wise?
I certainly don't pretend to know, but it's an ideal platform to blame others (i.e. government) for handset prices then.
Is MTN handset prices on par with Vodacom then? Hasn't Vodacom got more financial clout to allow a greater bulk of handsets to be bought and thus hopefully cheaper (simple business ethics here) or subsidised, particularly with the relationship they have with Vodafone for all the (again subsidised) Voda branded handsets?
Surely these factors would contribute to them being cheaper than MTN by some margin, or what am I missing?
Yeah, taxes. Of course there are. Import taxes are paid here too like elsewhere, albeit with fluctuations in % rates from one country to the next.
So basically they're admitting that SA (high-end and mid-end) cellphone consumers are being shafted with handset prices (particularly high end phones), it's just a case as to how much they portion the blame on each other:
government, the network/s themselves or (more than likely) both?
Sorry, I'm just a sceptical Wanqa (sitting in his ivory tower) when companies like Vodacom put sole blame on handset prices at government's door.

Another thought (I'm on a role here, LOL):
Cheap,low-spec handsets by Nokia, Motorola etc are very close or the same as UK prices. I often go onto the Vodacom site's 'specials' link to check.
So then is there a scale as to how much tax is paid for specific handsets, does that % of tax fluctuate by depending on the market value of a handset; i.e. is there a tax price bracket scale with thresholds?
I ask this because if there is tax to be paid on something like a Nokia 1100, is it the SAME PERCENTAGE of tax put on other higher handsets like a N95, i.e. a flat rate on all handsets?
If it's a flat rate, then that surely throws some of the argument out the water, as then why is there still such a HUGE discrepancy in price between the cheapies (which are obviously bought in far greater bulk for the SA market) and higher spec handsets compared to many places abroad? Of course the factor I just mentioned in brackets plays a major part in the price, but the prices for higher spec handsets still seems totally disproportionate to me.

Ja Wangs.
I just dont know the answers but as long as us suckers buy into this whole thing, nothing I suppose is going to shift.
All I know is Im unfortunitely one of the suckers that I mentioned above.
Cant stop myself from indulging in been ripped off left, right and center.
You and Brix are a sensible folk.
You sit back and wait for things to normalise and then purchase.
Me and Gucci are the impulsive kind.
We swallow.lol
R8600 for a W960?
Did I hear you guys right?
Where is all this going?
When is this cellphone fetish going to end for us?
What has the world become?
We cellphone pundits are all brainwashed.
Just recently I switched my phone off for two days straight as an experiment and it was a really strange feeling.
Not having that invasion from 'out there.'
Absolutely loved it but realised it would be a really difficult thing to just discard.
Wangs,I think if we had to get into the crux of the matter we would realise that in the bigger scheme of things we are wasting precious time.
Hey we only live once.
This virtual world is starting to drive me insane.
I want to go back to basics.
Ground myself and remember the really simple things in life that are free and real, natural and authentic.
Now you've got me started Wangs.
I would hate to add up how much all the phones I've had, airtime Ive spent, contracts Ive paid off ect ect come up to.
It would give me a coronary.
We should become cellphone manufacturers terrorists and put a global end to these giants who make our world so small.Down Nokia to begin the trend.
I wish I was born in the 60's.
Long term.
All the invisible shite flying around that we cant see.
What is it doing to us human beings?
We are going to evolve and mutate into cyborgs.
Think Im going to save up and go to a retreat in India, shave my head and become a Buddhist monk.
OMG
My Ass Speaks
lol

LMAO @ Guru Hobb-Symbian Device Llama.
Yeah, we've all had our various moments of impulsiveness; I've done that with loads of bike stuff etc in years gone by for example, boet.
Methinks that thing called age has really slowed down my once-impulsive side... but just you watch it manifest like a raging bull if I ever win the Lotto, LOL.
Just been watching the cricket between the Windies and Sli Wanka. Eish, some lady photographer's just been hit on the head by a Dwayne Bravo six. She's fortunately OK, just all bandaged up and she's carrying on snapping away.
