Can anyone help with this??? Been running windows xp for 4 years with no sound problems. I decided to have a play with Windows 7 and installed that. Everything working ok apart from very low volume coming from my speakers. Decided to go back to XP and reinstall the drivers (and got all up to date ones) and i'm still having the same problem.
The soundcard I'm using is Realtek ALC 880 and I have the latest R2.22 Audio HD drivers, which were being used previously albeit a lower version.
All settings are maxed out, including speaker volume and I can only just hear whatever i'm playing.
Any info would be great??? Cheers

I think that this happening after installing Windows 7 is just coincidence. There's no way that drivers or other files could be have been left and are now being used by XP.
Which means that you probably have some dicky hardware! Personally, I'd start by checking the cables and interconnects, then remove, clean and replace the sound card (if it's not integrated, of course).
If that's no good, I'd check the amp and / or speakers by trying them with an alternative sound source like an mp3 player.

Networking problem here.
My laptop is connected to the network but it isn't sharing my media folders with the network.
It started with a IP address conflict but I couldn't find out where that was.
I have enabled sharing on on the folders that contain my media but they still don't show on the network. My firewall has been turned off and Vaio Media Server has been started and the folders made available.
Is there a way of finding out what IP Addresses are being used?
I have three network connections. 1 wireless (enabled), 1 net adapter (disabled) and anther LAN which is also disabled.

You can find out what IP addresses are currently being used via your routers control panel. To find out your windows PC's current local IP address, click start then run, then type cmd and press enter.
In the black box that appears, type 'ipconfig' without the quotes and press enter. In your case, it'll show the IP address for your wireless connection, and (quite rightly) tell you that the other adapters are disabled.
Assuming that you haven't set static IP addresses manually within the router's control panel, you can usually resolve IP conflicts by rebooting your computer(s), and / or the router itself.

perhaps its due to a driver? on my setup, to use lan on any os (windows, linux, or (hacked) OSX) I must install a driver first (very simple on linux, and relatively simple on windows)
