I was also thinking of getting the G900, but I decided against it not because of what is happening to UIQ, but because I hear about all sorts of bugs and problems the phones have, and I know SE wont do anything to fix them
really...what??? p1, w960, g900, g700, are stable phones, without any critical bugs...
UIQ3 has a small but great quality library of software, software keeps being released (Opera 9.5, stuff from CPS, etc), there´s a great hacking and mod scene, etc
i see no reason for not buying it...just because SE "said" UIQ is dead??? did you think all UIQ3 phones started a time-bomb???

I dont know any exact problems to quote ATM. But Ive heard of alot of crashing and the like, so its not very reassuring. Add to that the fact that SE wont do anything about it. I had a friend with a P990, he never experienced any problems, and then suddenly all the buttons stopped working. It doesnt sound that great to me. That is what I meant. Can anyone tell me once and for all what they think of the G900 build quality? Ive seen dummy models and they feel even cheaper than the iphone, believe it or not, but then in pics it always looks really great. It seems to me the buttons on the sides seem tacky, as if from a toy, the d-pad has a lip on it which feels really annoying, and the centre button is tiny, the keypad seemed misshapen, somehow. I will admit though the back looks great
.
I suppose though, if I am going to learn to use a new smartphone OS, it might aswell be WM, since that will continue, and in that case even if there is a problem, you have support enough to sort it out. UIQ is a dead end in that respect, where if it no longer works that is your problem. Money should not matter too much since I could get either on a contract if I wanted to.
X1, however, seems underdeveloped to me. I'd prefer more of a unified UI (like Touchflo, but SE style) throughout the phone, making it useable, rather than just making mismatching 'panels' stringing them together with a couple of animations and calling that a UI. The X1 is close to perfect, scrap the keyboard, improve camera features and performance, add an accelerometer and there it is. Everything else on the market which meets that description so far is missing something, whether its a d-pad, or a 3.5mm jack or whatever. But Im not sure about the X1 yet. When's that review coming along Mizzle? Some people are waiting

Tigershark,
We're working on a very large review, so it'll take some time, but it'll be good!

When talking about the X1, you should compare it to its direct competitor HTC Touch Pro, not to the iPhone which is no more than a joke to the techies.
It's interesting to see that this X1 vs. Touch Pro comparison seems to be avoided by most. I find the specs of the Touch Pro slightly better than those of X1, price is slightly lower and fw support is bound to be way better than SE.
I'm not even going to waste my breath over the P990 for which SE has not provided closure. Even the P1, although the fw is stable, has a number of important features missing which SE will undoubtedly not fix. Since things have not been going well for SE, I suspect the build quality of G900 is worse than P1, which wasn't as good as P990.
Perhaps the SF will give SE an opportunity to get its act together and again start manufacturing devices that could realistically compete with other brands both in technical specs and in price.
