macro shots are focused on an object at a very close proximity and the background (most of the time) should look blurry. hope i got that right hehhehe.

Agree with @vwbeetle, he described the original intention of this thread.
However, i like @619's explanation, very accurate: A pic of a cherished thing becomes an extended representation of a member's personality. E.g. 619's phones, skrue's fave bands (thanks for those), etc.
I myself don't like to post my ugly face here in full.
My humble suggestion for pic criteria here: 1) The pic was taken by the member or someone he/she personally knows, not some internet download thing; and 2) It isn't spam.
