^because if you have a cheap ass smartphone with crap camera and optics, you can still use the QX10 to improve it a lot. Also, no smartphone has 10x optical zoom. if you're spending $600+ for a high end smartphone, you'd go for the QX100 if you wanted the attachment if you want better photos than what's already capable on the phone itself.

But i've seen the price for the QX100 today for the UK and it's £399 nearly as much as the phone! Rip off!

If You have cheaps ass smartphone with crap camera how likely it is You have an extra 250$ to spend for an additional lens that 300$ smartphones have? If someone is an optical zoom fan he can buy attachable lenses with zoom, that doesn't require additional battery and are much smaller and cheaper ...
Just checked dimensions of QX100, it's more bulky than RX100, has almost the same price, and no xenon flash as well is highly dependent on another mobile device. Why would anyone go with QX100 when at the same price they can get much more compact and real cmaera such as RX100? If the QX100 price were about 300$, it MIGHT have some sense, it's totally useless with 500$ price tag

it's still more capable than a $300 smartphone camera, so if you're gonna spend the money, you get one with more features for the money. none of those phones being compared are $300 unless they're purchased on contract. and even so, some people may want the 10x zoom, the ability to take photos remotely and added versatility of taking pics from virtually any angle. these accessories are not for the average consumer. they are definitely for more camera centric photo-philes..
RX100 still sells for $600USD.. QX100 is $500. $100 is still a big difference. you lack a xenon flash but you gain versatility. it all comes down to your specific needs.
i think the biggest selling point of these things is that it can "improve" almost any smartphone camera and the added versatility of how you can shoot pictures. there are lots of missing features that you would get if you just got an RX100 and especially an RX100II. If versatility and remote photo taking isn't necessary for you, then neither are these attachments.

was afraid this would happen, no real point in this accessory then. I can see many retailers and carrier shops being stuck with a large surplus of stock of them in a few months.

That's true I agree, and plus as I said before the cost of the QX100 here in the UK is £399 nearly as much as the phone (£546), not worth it.
Also, as the Z1 has 3x zoom theres no point in buying a seperate lens in my opinion.
