I will bookmark this post and I will post here after sony I1 or honamy is officialy anounced.
- 1/2.3 tweaked sony Exmor R sensor ( 90% similar with in DSC-HX50V sensor).
I WAS TRUE
- price tag at 800 $ free of contract. TBD
- same or tweaked image processing algorithm ( I personaly named this algorithm "sonyericsson xperia arc algorithm". An updated version of same algorithm is present on xpera Z also). If sony engineers will work hard I think they could implement cyber-shot algorithm before honamy goes official but I'm not 100% about that because hardware is different from sony compact cameras.
I WAS TRUE, sony Z1 noise reduction algorithm is even worse than xperia Z algorithm.. Now pictures are full of "mini sparks" and looks horrible. Thise samples from BRILLIANT 20 MP sony camera, they remind me of the early days of digital photography..
- I don't think will have xenon flash
I WAS TRUE.
I also think that has same mediocre flash with no improvements. In contrary samsung note 3 has new performance flash.
That's all my conjectures here

I think sony deliberately don't want to squeeze more from image sensor's in their smartphones to not hurt their point'and'shot sales.
Even the last irelevant chinese smartphone manufacturer can squeeze more from a sony 13 sensor than sony can in their own smartphones..
I WAS AGAIN TRUE

I'm thoroughly impressed with the Z1. Thin, waterproof, fast, great camera. I only wish they would have gone with the 5.2" screen the G2 uses. With the onscreen buttons, a 5" screen becomes 4.7-4.8" useable area for most apps and launchers. That's why LG used a 5.2" screen for the G2, you still get the 5" useable area with the onscreen buttons. I have the HTC One and it is a great phone, but I played with a Galaxy S4 Active (because of the water resistant feature) and while its not as smooth as the One, having those extra 0.3" in screen real estate was a much bigger deal than I had thought. So Sony is selling a 5" screen that will have far less useable area than the 5" screen of the GS4 and the 5.2" screen of the G2. We all know that the Z1 has a lot more going for it than those phones, but the average person will go into a store and see how much more fits on the GS4 screen and be swayed.
It just shows that little extra attention to detail that Sony is still developing. I have no doubt the Z2 will be even better and most likely bring everything on par with the top makers. Honestly, I would have been happy with a phone that was a couple of mm thicker and put the camera in the middle of the phone. That would have allowed them to make the top and bottom bezels smaller and feel more comfortable about adding the extra width that comes with the 5.2" screen. I know the argument that thin sells, and so it becomes a matter that Sony painted themselves into a corner with their design language of a flat back. A tapered back, where the middle was thick enough to accommodate the lens/sensor and the edges were thinner would have allowed them to market it as a thin phone.
One thought...If you could swipe up from the bottom of the screen to enable the onscreen buttons that would be ideal, so they're only there when you need to use them. Does anyone know if this has been thought of or implemented before?

I am wondering if the firmware update to get the most out of the camera will need a push from Docomo (or telcos in general)
I think we will hear from Aurelius at some point.
Would be a shame docomo delays this and would put it closer to the 2014 H1 release. Can my iphone survive by then is my other question, 3G starts to feel slow)

@Shotokan81
yeah, you have a valid point. Docomo (or any carrier for that matter) aren't speedy when it comes to pumping out updates, are they?
They will delay the availability in Japan just so that they can stuff it with bloat, and updates will be delayed too.
If I can, I would prefer to buy it unbranded. If the deals offered here in Asia are as cool as those in Europe(free QX10? OMG), I might bust my wallet and go for it soon after release.
If not, I will go the opposite route, wait till december or so when prices would have dropped to about ¥50,000 and buy 白ロムand flash international FW on it.
Just some interesting updates. There seems to be some official Sony announcement around 14 Sept for the Japanese version of Z1. Apparently it's going to AU as well with model number SOL23 and SO-01F for Docomo. It will be the domestic version so people living in Greater Tokyo should go down to Ginza to try it out.
