Exactly right @masseur. If you're jailbroken (not sure if you are still atm) ALWAYS use shift+Restore button, if on a non-jailbroken device shift+update will do. Otherwise if you just 'update' a jailbroken iphone to a stock firmware it'll lose 500MB of space that the Cydia partition made. Then restore backup after it's restored. It might have a problem restoring a jailbroken backup, mine did last time I tried to restore from a JB backup. Only lost SMS though, but I wish iTunes backed-up SMS in a different way.. like syncing apps and music etc.

Yep, just have to press shift (or option on osx) and select the ipsw file. I did a back up first, the restore was automatic. Actually, the only annoying thing was that my icons didn't go back in the exact order that they were in before.

Lol thats the least of my concerns when i restore my JB device, takes hours to set up again back to the way it was
So does your MMS work as expected, with O2 obviously? I'm sure I saw something about them not enabling it until 19th when the 3GS comes out

MMS seems to work as expected, though not had any sent to me yet, but sending worked fine.
Bring on the 3GS!

does anyone know where the sms db is located? so i can backup it up and copy it back after restoring, i hate losing all sms after a restore?
i have to say apple just make everything look a lot cooler, saw a few screenshots of how it groups MMS into convos and its really smart

@lemmy31, I don't think so. just go for it
I've completed my 3.0 upgrade now. 10 minutes for the firmware and around 90 minutes for settings and content!
things are definitly opening snappier now, and copy and paste works well, but I'll have to wait 'till later to check out the other changes.
