Does anyone know if its possible to setup a P910i to access the Vodafone live portal? Or do I need a Vodafone branded phone like the Vodacom site says?

Again - Vodafone live! is designed to only be accessed from a live! cellphone. The reason is, amongst other, easier one-click functionality that is integrated with a wide variety of online services. Don't go messing with hacks either - it'll just make life more complicated for other users.

Okay here's the expert opinion on why data in the South African context is important:
With fewer new subscribers to sign up, and voice ARPU (avergae rev per user) falling, operators now have two main goals relating to their subscriber bases:
– Drive revenue growth through increasing adoption and usage of data services
– Reduce churn and increase subscriber acquisition by differentiating the service offerings (but not on cost)
Churn is high in South Africa - prepaid is down but still high with both MTN and Vodacom reporting 2005 churn at above 30% (down from just under 50% last year). Amongst contract this is much lower (under 10%). So, the idea I guess is to get people to log on and settle in. Data users are less likely to move across to other networks than pure voice users.
Mobile Data is Critical For:
– Service Differentiation
– Brand Enhancement
– Customer Segmentation
– Customer Retention
– Market Share Gains
– ARPU Preservation (at least) and Uplift (at best)
– Improved Bottom Line
On another note:
A sunny day in Cape Town... captured with the K750i panorama function that's kick ass - instead of reducing a single shot by cropping it to look panoramic, the K750 actually takes three individual shots: first shot is stored.. a grayed overlap of the end of the previous shot covers part of your next picture so that you can join it, and the same with a third shot. The camera then joins these three pictures into a high resolution panorama picture... okay so my overlapping isn't that great

The same as with the K700, just an overall improvement in the quality of the pictures...BTW have you tried developing any of the pics?

And yes, I do agree that subscribers who use data tend to settle down and stay with one network over time than those just limiting their usage to voice.
The South African market is clearly more advanced than ours, but we are beginning to witness a surge in demand for data in Nigeria as well.

Oh yeah... too all my webbed peeps from SA on Esato... dudes wait and see what MTN delivers before jumping the 3G train to join. I think that MTN may just deliver a kick ass package after experiencing their DSTV feed. Also, I noticed that eXactmobile also delivers 3G content. No news service but there is full track music.
