I was thinking about how much more expensive it is to develop and produce a high-end flagship phone than it is to produce something like the Xperia X.

Until Xperia can show a decent bottom line then should we expect another high-end flagship this year?

I'm sorry to say I've lost interest in Sony and Xperia. It started with the Xperia X compact which doesn't deserve to be called compact and which is no viable replacement to my XZ3c. If you read their financial statements they only talk about how much they managed to increase their profits per device. Well if you use mediocre parts and charge premium for them of course profits will go up. But in return they destroy their whole brand. Slowly fading from relevance. I give Sony a couple of years max before they shut down their mobile business. So sad because they have so much potential. They manufacture cameras for everyone but does not even have good cameras in their own phones, it's been like this for years now!

Sony should do like they did with playstation 4 and let someone else with fresh ideas run the mobile division. Without Mark Cerny, Sony would probably still use their Cell processor and closed echo system.

Apple is the master of closed echo system, so that is not necessarily a bad thing. Now Sony aren't Apple so it doesn't matter.
About losing interest for Sony's phones. I am with you there. Even my girlfriend's Huawei Mate 9 is so much more interesting than my XZ is.

While I've always been happy with the performance, the problem is that very little changes with the Sony flagships where many things are incremental while other things don't evolve. Internals are incremental but that's fine, design though is just too similar. I had a Z1, Z3, Z3+ and now a Z5 and they look near identical. XZ was lightly different but other aspects haven't evolved. With the side fingerprint scanner you get a little more thickness so I would've imagined that they would've been able to slim down the top and bottom bezels but no. So many devices this year will have tiny bezels so I don't believe that Sony can't do it, I think they'll get the XZ and just fiddle with it because that's the easy option.

Galaxy S5 to S6 was a big change, S6 to S7 little difference but if it works then why not? LG G4 to G5 was a massive change, it didn't work so they'll make another big change judging by the rumors. I'm not looking for a curved display but the design needs to be more up to date, the flagship should have XA side bezels and minimal forehead/chin. I don't see why I should pay premium prices for a retro design and while people will say that there's only so much you can do with a slab, take a look at how other companies are pushing the limits.

Hey I have heard that one of the new model will be Xperia XZs.

With that name I guess it will be minor change model of original Xperia XZ.

Hmmm, so a high-end phone like the Z3+ and X Performance, but not the successor of the XZ. Not a fan of it, as it isn't a necessary move. Needless R&D (mostly based on the XZ, but still) and promotion (not that they spend too much, but still). Spin-offs never sell as good as the real deals anyway. Also, people are already complaining about incremental updates and this is not helpful, as it makes the changes between the generations even more little. This move could hurt a "XZ2" up front in that regard.
