AI (LLM) running locally on phone hardware will need extremely good hardware and at least 20 GB RAM memory:

Sony foldable phone in 2025?

AI in several areas, especially camera Auto mode they said will not sucks anymore

Technically every mfg can put 24GB RAM in their phone if they truly want so, however cost reason and strategy dont allow it And Sony never price itself lower than Samsung

They can make foldable, but it will be dead right after release

Thanks for your thoughts.

I don't care about AI in camera. AI would be much better for telling your phone what do to. This would eliminate the need to browse many options and some repeated actions would be automated.

I think Sony will go big on AI partnership. Not only for their phones but also for PlayStation 6. There will be a longterm partnership with some big AI player. Probably not Open AI since they are co-owned by Microsoft.

My perfect Sony phone would be 4K foldable with native AI and top flagship specs! It would probably cost 2000€+

We should never forget why Sony has decided to keep mobile phone division: connectivity development.

That's the sole reason why Xperia is still alive and will be alive for quite some time. All that research and implementation finds its way into many Sony products and AFEELA being the flagship product will depend on connectivity more than anything before it. That's where AI comes into play as well. So we should not be surprised that AI will trickle down to Xperia line and become some sort of the focus.

On that Auto camera AI part improvement, I do not believe it Sony has some strict in-house photography science standards that they will not deviate from. Sure they will improve onto something but don't expect 180 from what we have now and don't forget that 1V, despite having a better main cam hardware, outputs 95% similar looking images when compared to 1IV. Cause Sony wants it like that.

Sony is focusing more on AI and "mainstream" consumer segment.
About the drop of 4K&21:9, they said its for costs reason, as the old ones are custom-ordered only for Sony. By reducing the display size, they can use common off the self panels (like the Chinese), therefore cheaper, have better specs.

Simple, buy from another supplier. Xiaomi and other are using domestic to reduce cost instead of using samsung. What about that 6.9" from boe? Anyway, if screen is flat without hole, it is gonna still be exclusive. 🤦🏻‍♂️

You are partially right. Every "flagship" model from every relevant manufacturer has semi-exclusive screen. Despite display being off-the-shelf there are a lot of customization/variation available at the factory. Like drivers, controllers as well as emissive materials and die cut. Samsung factory probably makes all the die cut tools exclusively for every specific batch as no holes, pills are the same and neither is positioning. So for Sony not to have a die cut is just a step skipping on the production line but I bet my life they charge Sony for it as well. Top and bottom bezels are part of the housing and I guess that's the cheapest part of the display.

Now that I think of it, I am leaning to believe since 5V and 10V share the same display and now that 5 is going bye, bye it's really hard for them to justify the quantity and the price of high end 1 series panel. I strongly believe that 5II/III/IV display was that leeway since both displays were most likely made on the same line sharing majority of components with 1II/III/IV/V.

Anyway this just shows us how expensive 4K 21:9 display is when it's cheaper for them to get customized and better speced off the shelf display than it is to order next gen 4K 21:9 batch. Keep in mind that differences between 1IV and 1V display are minimal so they probably didn't want to put in the same outdated display all over again and investing into brand new successor with new technology is probably expensive as hell especially now that they have dropped 5 series all together.

Is 1v screen different from mark 1 to begin with?
