Nope, apparently the PS3 is twice as powerful as the new Xbox.

Whether that'll mean better games i dont know though.

apprently PS3 is twice more powerful than XBOX-360... just looking at the memory space on the disk u'll know which is more powerful..

XBOX360 - Dual layer DVD = 16GB
PS3 - Blue-Ray = 58GB (it is also dual layer)

Nobody is actually certain.. but we'll see when both monsters are released... and my Monster will be PS3..

The new Xbox has no chance in Japan IMO. The Japanese are very patriotic to their gaming routes, and just like original Xbox it wont be very popular over there.

Thats my prediction anyway.

Well, from the technical details released by both companies, apparently when its all added up it is apparently true.

Its nice for once to know that the Playstation brand will be the most powerful. With the PS1 and PS2 the consoles were always one step behind the others (N64 / Xbox & GC).

it can theoretically perform twice the number of raw calculations, which isn't the same thing. of course that claim requires quite a few assumptions - that the cell architecture is suited for the types of calculations which will be required of it (some yes, some no), that all the cores can run at peak efficiency all of the time (which is not physically possible), and that the sony PR team received a collective insertion of truth and honesty (even less likely). i'm surprised they could recite those specs and keep a straight face.

you may want to check the discussion and article links from this thread, which raises a few interesting points about this:

i'm not arguing that ps3 is more powerful, but if you look at the spec difference between the current xbox and ps2 the gap in games performace is not equal to the gap in raw processing. i also seem to recall sony making similarly grandiose claims about the ps2, which fell well short when push came to shove.

Id say its a pretty equal gap in games performance. The Xbox versions of PS2 games have always been better to reflect the extra power the Xbox has.

Sony's claims about the PS2 were pretty correct at the time. But of course by the time newer consoles like the Xbox came out those claims wouldnt be true anymore.

From the footage ive seen graphically however, the PS3 does seem to outperform the Xbox 360 noticably. Lets see what Nintendo announce in the near future.
