The answer is YES and NO.
Yes, in terms of design, user friendliness and features.
No, SE phones eg. K700's memory cannot be expanded (pls give us MMC), technologically, I personally do not believe that SE in in front of Nokia.

EDGE in Western Europe is just a poor sales argument that is probably why we won't see Sony Ericsson Z500, oh yes it does have EDGE to not mention S710i which also has edge.
Sony Ericsson has everything Nokia has or at least can do everything whereas Nokia does not have QVGA for mass and no good camera.
This thread is getting boring!

Any discussion which comes down to "X is better than Y" without clear arguments is boring.
The automobile metaphore is tempting but in general using metaphores is a slippery path to making your point clear because the match is never 100%. It also gives the impression that you have not thought your point through and have no valid arguments other than the metaphore.

I have put forward valid arguements relating to se business and if they know what they want to be as a company. As for the car i said substitue it with the vertu phone. Also business is businees be it a phone car or chocolate bar the same principles apply . perhaps if people took there head out of se back side and just looked at what myself and others were saying they would see we aint havin a go at se but offering reason why they aint better than other companys but they could be .

of course it is getting boring when all u can do is make this kind of rhetoric statement without any reasonable backing or proof.
come on, if u want to be in the discussion then come out with something that SE (i assume u r a SE fan) is ahead and with at least some meaningful arguments and/or proof to backup.
btw: r u so sure Nokia does not hv QVGA?

@scotsboyuk:
i think a point brought out that SE should focus on high tech image is a very tricky path. Unlike image of exclusivity (like the Vertu brand), high-tech image can be difficult to project or retained. It must hv a strike point that the general public can identify with.
One such point is the camera quality. If u can build a phone now with 5MP camera, people would perceived it as high-tech eventhough the phone can hardly make a call. Then again it is quite easy to play catch-up here. On the other hand, build quality (which many SE fan like to tout) is much harder to quantify. If throw together a 7610 and S700, u hv to use detail examination before u can even tell the different in quality and functions.
On your point that SE should not follow others to adopt Series60, I think this would be a grave mistake. Series60 based smartphone is enjoying crazy growth now and would likely to continue. If there is no advantage then Samsung, Panasonic, Siemens, LG or the like would not rush in.

I agree that focusing on a high tech image is risky for SE, but they really only have two choices. SE either need to start producing low-end mobiles to compete in that market or they need to make their products even more high tech.
I think we shall have to agree to disagree about the Series 60 issue.

An interesting point for consideration is how many high tech users actually buy SE. Esato would certainly seem to suggest that a lot of them do, but I wonder how many in a wider context.

I think it is virtually impossible for a mobile phone manufacturer to only focus on high level phones. You need a set of entry level phones to create brand loyalty. Then users can step up. Otherwise they will have to start with Nokia and then when they have a budget for a smartphone step over to SE?
Also a lot of the functionality that you want in top level phones can only be feasible if you have a large enough user base. Therefore a lot of the functions have to be spread out among cheaper handsets too, like GPRS. This is one of the reasons BT neve found its way to the masses and never unfolded al the potential it has. It was only built in bizarre looking expensive handsets of some weird Swedish company.
I really do not understand how concentrating on top level phones only could make SE as a company more profitable. May be it would make the owners of such a device feel better because they would belong to an exclusive circle of superior beings. I'm sure that target won't make it into the business plan.

finally
this what ive been trying to get at what are se plans which markets are they intereseted in?
as a consumer i am totally unsure and this i believe is one of there problems they dont have a clear plan of which markets they want to be in.
how can consumers gain brand loyalty as well if they are unsure
look at the big 3 they have hand sets in every category from budget monochrome to budget to mid to entry level smart phone and 3g
se has great phones at the top end and mid to high level ie p series k series
entry level phones are nearly none existant and what they have are very hard to find.
dela i think you are very right when you say if you get a new user to adopt your system from earlier on they will stick as they get use to how things work
but for me se aint doing this and its a great shame
i would love to know how many people who bought the t series have stuck with se when they were due a new phone

And like I posted earlier the competition is filling the gap. 150 euro is a price a lot of people are ready to spend on a phone. Will these clients be lost forever? It is a shame because the personnel in the phoneshops are inclined to favour SE but they are left in the cold.
The only alternative are the "old" SE phones that are downpriced. Not really attractive. Only one advice if you want to buy an SE phone: "wait".
