This image taken by Keith Tagg Adam Stacey with his camphone. He was on the northern line just past Kings Cross. Train suddenly stopped and filled with smoke. People in carriage smashed tube windows to get out and then were evacuated along the train tunnel. He's suffering from smoke inhalation but fine otherwise.

It usually takes a few days before all the facts become concrete and the rumours are debunked. The media is notorious for presenting such things to us in these situations because of the lack of facts and information they have. As time goes on we shall hear the full account.

Shocking, really shocking. When one sees such images it does bring the whole event to a much more personal level. The old addage of a million deaths being a statistic, but one death being a tragedy is very true.

I don't think a determined effort by a secretive organisation can be easily intercepted.

That's just the thing. Michael Howard was being interviewed on the BBC earlier today and he made the very salient point that whilst attacks are not inevitable, there is also no guarantee that they can always be prevented. The nature of today's attacks makes them very difficult to intercept. Of course we still don't have all the details so it is both difficult and unwise to speculate upon how they were carried out exactly, but one imagines that if they could have been prevented they would have.

Er, to monitor Saddams WMD?
It's difficult to monitor people who don't want to be monitored, however sophisticated your intelligence service is.
