Dear sony, please, for the next flagships, stop saving money by implementing cheaper panels to flagships. the z1 is more flagship and premium device then the z ultra, yet the z ultra got better viewing angles:

many people do care about viewing angles. please, do not ignore this. yes, you improved from the z, but the z1 should not have inferior viewing angles then the z ultra.

^but it looks nicer than ZU straight on.
which would you prefer? A better view at an angle you use 99.9999999% of the time, or a better view, you use 0.00000000001% of the time?
I choose option 1 every time. it's not like Z1's viewing angles are terrible either. some units seem to have bad viewing angles based on photos and some may actually have a bad panel (which sucks but quality issues can arise during such a fast launch). but I can tell you from personal experience, it's a matter of who's taking the photo. I can MAKE my Z1 .. LOOK like it has terrible viewing angles than it actually does. See it with your own eyes before you pass judgment
that's all I gotta say.

only in the 6th picture z1 looks clearly better. 1: z ultra wins - look at those z1 orange hues, what the?. 2: the z ultra's colors look a bit sharper to me, but let's say a tie. 3-5: pretty much a tie. 6: z1 wins here it seems in noticeable way. 7-8, 13: maybe the z1 colors are less exposed but it's really hard to notice so i would compromise for this less accuracy for viewing angles. in all the rest of the pics the ultra wins due to va's. i'll take z ultra screen any day, but not it's size, hehe... sony, 5.5-6 inch next time?
all in all, the z1 superiority when looking straight is hard to notice and only in few of the straight angle pics, and this can't be said for va's, or lack of. it may seem for some nit picking, but sony need to take a look at this - va's and these strange orange hues. z1 got a good screen (minus this orange hues in some of the pics that are very noticeable in the first pic... reminds me of amoled greenish hues a bit), but... next time. consumers are never satisfied.

So far all of the Sony phones have been clearly rushed to the market. The best case scenario I can think of is Xperia Z1 and Z1 mini were scheduled to be released at IFA but they felt behind schedule and they had to release Xperia Z1 but they decided not to announce Z1 mini and wait for it to become a complete and perfect device. What my fanboyish mind wish for Z1 mini is: 1.Optimized software for better performance, battery life and features. 2.Streamlined camera software with more manual controls and same sensor size but 8mpx camera. 3. High resolution audio. 4.flap-less water-resistant design. 5. most importantly Crystal LED display.

@amirprog - hue isn't a problem. that can be recalibrated with software easily. the only real issues are sharpness, overall contrast, and (if it matters) viewing angles. i have a Z1 and i think the screen is stunning. I haven't seen a ZU in person.. no doubt it has a stunning screen as well. I just think Z1 has the slight edge straight on.. of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder
i agree that Sony needs to make sure all their phones are released with TOP quality screens .. the same ones used in their TVs/Laptops. They need to get out of this ditch they've dug for themselves with reviewers and consumers as having poor viewing angles. It shouldn't be an issue, but it is because others don't have it. As a market leader in display tech, they shouldn't let such a small thing tarnish their name in any way.
Here's to a smarter, better, and successful Sony in 2014

I think there's actually a solution to Sony's problem with the screen with regards to quality, although I'm not sure if they can supply that many, and if it will make the cost higher (I think most probably). OLED screens, the one on the Vita, which is regarded as one of the nicest screen ever. OLED with a higher resolution that'll be great.

Crystal-LED is even better than OLED; It has same contrast, better color accuracy, same viewing angles, better brightness and purer whites and more efficient than OLED in bright images but it lacks OLED's color gamut and response time.
