I can't seem to do the "hold volume down button while plugging in the usb cable" it never move pass that step. I even install the Sony update service, and I can't make it pass that step, too.

seem simple enough. Hold the volume down button while plugging in the usb cable. but NOTHING HAPPEN! and I'd been holding it down for over 2 minute!
what about the debugging, enable or disable? MTP or MSC mode? anything else I need to know?

EDIT: OK NEVERMIND! I got it now. didn't know about the drivers I need to install in the flashtool folder.

thanks for everything, Ricky_D and djin.

however, it did delete my apps and things, but nothing else is deleted.

@doministry

Go to the C:\Flashtool\drivers (or equivalent) folder on your PC and run the flashtool-drivers.exe.

Then try again. The first time your PC recognises your phone will take a couple of moments to attach the proper drivers. You may need to disconnect your phone and reconnect your phone after the drivers are installed.

And as djin says here, close your PC Companion (including from the system tray) to avoid interference.

Thanks again. You mean running it while connected the phone to the PC? And the phone off?

Starting conditions:

Phone is on
Phone is not connected to pc
PC Companion is closed and exited from the system tray
Flashtool is closed
Required FTF is downloaded and placed in C:\Flashtool\firmware

What to do:

Run flashtool-drivers.exe (C:\Flashtool\drivers)
When it's finished run Flashtool
Select the flash icon
Select flashmode
Select the correct FW
Select OK (it will ask you connect your phone)
Enable usb debugging in the developer settings of your phone (Settings > Developer options > USB debugging
Turn off phone
Hold volume down button
Connect to PC via USB
Wait for recognition in Flashtool
Release volume down button
Wait for flash process to finish
Disconnect phone
Power up
Enjoy

Perhaps I should re-thread this instead of retyping it in the forum of every handset I buy and read the thread of.

Doing it right now!

P.S.
Looks like the drivers from PC Companion were enough....

Edit:
It took 5 or 7 minutes...
