I guess this is for some mid-range phone because the contrast ratio is just 1000:1 which would cost about the same as a 1200:1 720p display and it needs smaller battery just like Xperia P. Smaller battery will let Sony use 1080p vs competition and still keep the cost down.

Thx Shotokan for the insight. ~550 USD sounds good!

Are you in the US?
I guess Sony will ensure that the Japanese phones cannot be used with a US Sim card if they can.
Also, you better check that it is compatible with your LTE or 3G bands (I may be paranoid, but I think it is not good enough to check the frequency. For instance, two carriers may say they use the 800mhz band, but actually one would use 800+ and the other 800-. If you're in the wrong network then you are out of luck).
However I am not knowledgeable. If you know these things well feel free to educate me!

To add on to what Shotokan said, a good example would be Docomo's LTE and HSPA network in comparison to T-Mobile USA's. They both use 1700mhz denomination band, BUT be very CAREFUL. Docomo uses band 9(UMTS 1700) where as T-Mobile uses band 4(AWS). Like what Shotokan said the difference is one is on the upper end and the other is on the lower end.

@Shotokan81
No, I am in Kazakhstan. I guess we are a bit more fortunate with Sony products than the US. I was surprised to find out that Z1 is available in several shops here. Maybe I will like Z1, then no need to wait for Z1f. I will check the bands, but I guess there are compatible 3G bands. 4G license is not available for main operators here anyway.
