It might be the hard drive giving up? That can cause very slow everything! Is the harddrive making loud noises, or sounding like it's working harder than it used to?
Try doing a scandisk on it; if it looks like it's going to take forever then the hard drive is probably on it's way out. If it completes in a reasonable time, then the hard drive is most likely ok and it might have speeded things up a little anyway.
There's no definitive way of testing a hard drive for errors without using software, but those pointers above can give you a very good idea

@Perryman you could uninstall all the programs save the pictures and documents etc to disk or usb, when everything off, do virus and malware and spyware checks, chk disk and dedrag make it like fresh install, then just out what you want back on, take a good few hours but quicker than waiting for a replacement disk, or be naughty and download 1 lol

Legaly, you can't supply windows pre-installed without offering some way of reinstalling it. If PB never supplied any disks with the computer, then there should be a recovery utility that uses a second partition on the hard drive rather than a CD or DVD.
So I would ring them about this issue, one should never be supplied a new PC without a means of restoring it.
