Maybe its not such a good sensor if you need to do such exstensive noise reduction.

Whats with the eyes checking? Looking at the crops just reveals the result even better. It shows no noise because its smudged away. Thats something different from saying the pics are noise free, because they arent

Who says there is a need to do such noise reduction? Maybe sony likes it that way? If you do less noise reduction the colors, contrast and low light performance would still be the same and they are very good. There are enough comparisons that prove the camera of the xperia z is better than the competition except maybe the lumia 808 or something. It really isn't a bad camera. The noise reduction is a bit too much for some, but that is a software thing.

I just want pictures that look good and natural on my laptop and in my photo frame. I can't remember when I looked at a photograph that close up and I'm sure that is not how most people judge a picture.
I'd say low light performance is more important than smudging that is only noticeable when you zoom in to the picture and examine it in the most minutest detail. Surely, that isn't the only way you judge a picture.
@northmonkey
There was a discussion back in the thread where we found out that the logo was printed on the screen protector, which doesn't make much sense to me.

Well, if some comparisons show that its better than the competition who am I to say the pics dont look so good. I will from now on only rely on those and ignore my eyesight and reviews that states otherwise. Maybe I do need to get my eyes checked...

Where do I start:
Colours seem all washed out, up close all the details are smudged, suspect focus issue to the left side of the image.
That's what I seen.Left side blurring,again

@tyko... Cool... Cool... You don't have to like the cam, if you don't want to... You've the rights...
But you can consider the reviews..... Only PA claimed the cam to be bad... GSM actually praised the cam... If you go thro' the review, you'll know it... If you still can't believe, you can go thro' the reviews of blunty on youtube, gizmodo that was posted a few pages ago, jus to see how Z's cam performs against ip-5... It clearly beats ip-5 in terms of low-light & ties with it in day-light shoot... Also frandroid, eprice, stuff have given great reviews & thumbs-up to Z's camera... After all, it's up to you to decide... I'm jus telling my opinion... Cheers...

I just hope the sony logos were only printed on the screen protector on prototypes or something as that would really put me off buying it.

Im not "against" the XZ, the photos are passable, just dont like sonys aggressive post processing. Regarding reviews, there are some that likes it and some dont, its still opinions. But like goldenface wrote, depending how you watch your photos there are different criteria how you judge the quality.

I think in the grand scheme of things there is very little between the cameras of all the top phones right now. They all excel in some areas and don't fair quite as well in others.
What I like about this cam is they have made great steps in low-light performance, which is an innovation in the camera department that goes a long way toward solving the big problem associated with small sensors.
