@ all those who have successfully updated their p990's firmware:

any of you reformat disk first, and then flash?

i read somewhere that only flashing doesnt completely erase the internal memory beforehand- any truth to this?

cheers

ok,
ive got r7a001 on my phone. I got my phone from x1387 on ebay so i assume its from hk.

SEUS says newest firmware already installed, but has continue any way option. I dont want to click continue and find that my phone isnt updated, as im on slow internet at the moment, 56k, gone over my limit for the month

When i first got the phone i did an update and clicked continue anyway, though i cant remember if it put new firmware on it

So do i continue or not?

Also, a silly question, but ive never done it before, how i do a 'backup' of my phone?

thanks

Had issues with my backup, after several reboots / retries I finally saved a backup Tthen I ran into issues updating firmware. It would go through the motions and then when I powered on the phone it would just blink a white screen (scared the !@#$ outa me at first). I ended up unistalling the update service downloading it from SE and reinstalling, then the update worked correctly. Now when I try to do a restore the phone reboots and says restore in progress, but I get an error message stating the restore was canceld by the device ???

I updated the pc suite from 1.1.8 to 1.2.15 still no luck, I am running mrouter 3.1.0.28... any ideas???? I really just need my contacts!!!

thanks,

aka

in the meantime wifi / inet browsing seams alot faster, video player works better also...

@ ads1107: If SEUS says that you already have the latest software version installed, it will not update to the new firmware. So there is no need to attempt the update.

@ Everyone who is restoring a backup to the phone: If you really want to receive the full benefits of the firmware update, I would not recommend restoring your backup. As Jah has said, the best thing to do is to Master Reset prior to the update, and then do manual install of applications and synchronization.

I confirm all the changes that others have noted. Right after the update and with nothing installed, I managed 17.6 MB RAM. After installing everything, adding contacts, etc., I now get 17.4 consistently on startup. This is a good improvement from the previous 15.7 on the prior firmware.

The menus do move faster, and the phone is generally quicker.

Opera is indeed much faster, and has added a few options (one I haven't seen mentioned is an additional cache size option of medium).

Memory leakage still seems to persist for me, although programs do seem to use less memory.

I'm not absolutely certain, but it seems that there are many more options for shortcuts in the FC Today Screen.

One strange occurrence is that the Opera Mini icon is now blurry/pixelated whereas it was sharp before. Anyone else notice this?

Unfortunately, I haven't notice much difference in startup time. About how long in seconds does it take now for those of you who have seen improvements?

All in all, I think it is a big step in the right direction. I have always been happy with my P990, but this makes it even better. There is still a big wish list of improvements that could be made, but at least this update has helped many of the more important issues (multitasking, web browsing, speed).

Is anyone having problems with "Sky By Mobile" since re-flashing?
I cannot access the tv guide now- using either 3G/GPRS or wi-fi. I get the error message "Wireless request has taken too long, please try again.
I have re-installed this application and I get the same error.

Thanks,
Dave

I am stuck and need some help. I have been trying to upgrade, but holding the C key and putting the phone in the cradle, nothing is happening. All I see is the instructions page with Back link in the update app.

Few questions.

1. Before I run the updater, do I need to run mRouter/PC suite?

2. In flip mode, should I hold "C" button (Cancel) or "abc" key? I am assuming the C/Cancel button

3. when you connect the phone, should I expect some icon in the window systerm tray to indicate that phone is connected?

Also, when I plugin the phone, I get warning on Windows/XP that "USB device is not recognized". Is this normal?

@AbuBasim, thanks.

Finally I got it working. Rebooting my windows machine fixed the problem. It's now downloading the update.

for others,
in flip mode, its the key "2" (ABC). What confused me was "press C button" instruction. I was pressing the C button on the keypad (upper/right corner, big button with C on it ).
