Hi all,
This is really beginning to get tedious as already pointed out by >500 the other thing is it is impossible to know just how many pictures plankgatan took to get the one good picture he then shows us or for that matter how long he has spent fiddling and altering settings to get the desired result.
Unfortunately as he stated prior to the K850 release it was going to be the best as well as his extreme bias for anything SE it is really hard to believe him even if he claims they were just point and shoot pictures that it is true.
But at the end of the day who really cares if you like SE buy SE if you like another manfactuer buy from them not everyone is going to like the same phone irrespective if one is better or not it is down to each individual to decide which they prefer there really is no right answer for everyone.
The only thing we do know is all those that were happy to slate the N95 build quality and bugs seem to be able to ignore the numerous post's about all the K850's problems. Which basically makes them all nothing more than hypocrites, as however you look it at far more K850's seem to have problems and a much wider range of problems to and if you support SE or not it's not good for SE not by long way or us the consumers.
Marc

well ill have a k850 this week again, then by the end of this week, or next week ill also have a n95 8GB from a new contract, so maybe ill do some 'un-biased' comparrisons, by that i mean i wont alter something so one phone will take the better pic

Looking the the comparison. K850 photo still sucks. noisy and color is all out...pinkish..pinkish.

And I just can't see how K850 has more details when it is all fuzzy. On the K850 photo you can't even make out face of human as it is just a big lump of noisy pixels. On the N95 pict the face is clear.
I dont know what kind of photographer you are.

A person with one eye closed can clearly tell that N95 pictures has more details whereas the K850 picts are just fuzzy pixels

I have to admit those pictures from the K850 are shocking, but they are totally different to the other comparisons I have seen. Most of the images I looked at were from this review:
http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]sonyericsson-k850-cam-en.shtml
And just a few random pictures would like to comment on (and yes they really were randomly chosen)
First:
K850:
http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]ic/k850/n95vsk800/DSC00824.JPG
Slight colour cast over the whole image but other than that pretty good, a little bit of noise (especially in the background) but all the detail is there, including a lot of subtle stuff.
N95:
http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]k850/n95vsk800/07072007056.jpg
First thing I notice about this image is the lack of noise, now you may think that is a good thing but a second glance shows why. The phone has stuch a very harsh noise reduction algarithm other the image, it is very soft and a lot of the really fine subtle detail is gone. You can also see around the edge of the leaf and the berries in particular sharpening artefacts. Looking at the berries themselves, this is where the N95 really comes unstuck, almost all the detail in them has gone as the added contrast and vibrancy of the image has caused them to become a red blob. A prime example of what I was talking about in my last post.
These next two images show the problems with the N95's overactive post processing (these were picked intentionally to show the point)
K850:
http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]ic/k850/n95vsk800/DSC00819.JPG
N95:
http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]k850/n95vsk800/07072007054.jpg
Now two more picked at random, there is a lot less difference in these shots and it is slightly harder to tell the difference.
K850:
http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]ic/k850/n95vsk800/DSC00891.JPG
N95:
http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]k850/n95vsk800/17072007094.jpg
Now at first glance the N95 looks to have the lead in this, it does look like it is sharper. But take a closer look, especially at the sighs and smaller objects in the distance. The ones in the K850 shot are clearer, how can that be? If you have a closer look at the N95 shot our old friend, post processing has been playing again. The N95 is not actually sharper than the k850, it's just smoother, all the noise has been removed and a lot of the detail lost. The detail in the K850 shot is still there, it's just hiding slightly behind the noise. When you get to needing that detail (such as the sign and cars in the distance) the K850 turns out to be clearer.
I could carry on the comparison but TBH I can't be bothered and I'm sure you don't want to be reading any more either. IMO I think both cameras are very close quality wise, it's just the N95 is let down quite a lot by the pot processing the phone applies to the pictures. Which is why I believe the K850 is the better camera (for me at least). The N95 is arguably better for just point-shoot-print but the K850 is better if you are willing to spend a very small amount of time editing really good ptures afterwards. I don't use the K850 as my main camera (obviously) but I like to have a reasonable camera around me at all times when I am out and about.
And thank you, a personal insult at me within 1 post, just shows you are a very elequent person...

I always think the day shots of N95 are great, and the other types of shots (e.g. night, low light, indoor) are acceptable.
However, after looking at the full size shots of N95 posted here, I feel that N95 applied too much post processing, to the extend that many details are lost.
For example, look at the trees in daylight shots:
You can't really see the leaves at all.
In low light, it seems that more noise processing is used to remove noise (which was kept in k850) until the picture looks like a water-color painting:
Also, in an attempt to make the picture sharper, it uses very aggressive sharpening algo (notice the sharpening artifacts):
It is possible to have more details along with high noise level. I do not have a k850i and N95, so I can't illustrate what I mean using these two phones. But I can try illustrating using a P1i and K800i (see below for crop of the full size pic).
k800i
p1i
Note that p1i has a high level of noise, but also carries more detail than k800i. Although the pic of p1i looks bad at first instant, I still prefer this over k800i. With proper PS, you can actually get a very good pic (cos the details are preserved).
Note that the file size of p1i is always about 50-100% larger than the size of the same photo taken using k800i. From the N95 and K850i comparison photos by Amp34, the size of k850i pics are also larger than N95. Seems to imply that k850i carries more details than N95.

It's surprising that the noise reduction in the N95 is more aggressive than in the K850i, as the N95 most likely needs less of it, with it's larger sensor. N95 has a 1/2.5" Micron MT9P001 sensor, while the K850i has "only" a 1/2.8" Sony IMX020.
With some slight tweaking or new firmware where the strength of the noise reduction and sharpening could be a user-adjustable setting, the N95 would easily beat the K850i.

i have a short qusetion. i never made any settings when i took a pic with a cam fone ( except flash on/off ) and i have to admit, the pix are ok for the reason i did it. do those fine settings really counts? are there really so many differences at the result?

good settings make good pictures and bad settings make okay pictures

I am even not saying that N95 wins over K850 in every shots. But in general shots from N95 is clearer, sharper and have better color. In some (but not every) shots the sharpening may be too much.
Why dont you use your "expertise" to explain to us why you still can vehemently proclaimed I quote "K850 wins hands down" unquote in photo details when it quite clearly show in the following comparisons that your conclusion is far from accurate.
